      When I answered with "reduce the complexity of your searching/sorting algorithms" they hurriedly dismissed that answer and waited for the one response they wanted to hear. The only answer they wanted to hear was caching. The most unimaginative question I have ever heard in an interview.

      that's ridiculous, since there are so many ways to make applications faster. if they want that answer, they should have narrowed down the scope or specifying a context.
