A close friend and mentor went out of their way to stick their neck out on the line to get me a technical job. I was unable to rise to the occasion, in that what they asked of me I was unable to do, learn, or ultimately perform. I learned that despite how great things may sound, looking at things through a critical lens, accurately portraying skills and deficiencies, is important for general success.
