What's the difference between selling to a customer and serving a customer?

Selling to a customer shows you are interested in their needs, you are attentive to what they are saying and find the best products for them, if the item they are looking for is out of stock or discontinued, you do your best to find a similar product for them. Serving the customer is just giving them what the want and nothing else.
