In case manhole displaces from its position due to vehicle movement, circular shape can put it back to its original position. Square / rectangle can get altered when it displaces from its position. Where as circle is same from all angles. Also you can roll the circle shaped man hole lids, where as in other shapes you have to lift it and move.
