Job Description: An Oracle EPM Profitability and Cost Management developer requires a distinct blend of deep functional accounting knowledge (specifically allocation logic) and highly specialized technical expertise within the Oracle Cloud EPM ecosystem.
Whether you are looking at the legacy PCMCS module or the modernized Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management (EPCM) framework, a well-qualified developer needs the following core competencies:
1. Module-Specific Technical Expertise
Allocation Rules & Rule Sets: Mastery in designing, building, and sequencing allocation rules. This includes defining source and destination intersections, allocation methods (e.g., proportional, even split), and driver-based allocations.
Custom Calculations: Proficiency in writing custom MDX-based formulas or calculation logic when standard point-and-click allocation rules are insufficient.
Dimension Management: Deep understanding of PCM/EPCM dimension types, specifically system-defined dimensions like Rule, Balance, and Point of View (POV), alongside standard business dimensions (Product, Customer, Department).
Model Validation & Execution: Ability to run and optimize multi-step calculation jobs, analyze execution statistics, and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks or circular references.
2. Reporting & Data Analysis
Smart View Mastery: Advanced skills in using Oracle Smart View for Excel to extract, manipulate, and analyze complex multi-dimensional datasets.
Allocation Tracing & Balancing: Expertise in using Rule Balancing reports and the visual Allocation Trace tool to audit and verify that costs map accurately from source to target without "leakage."
Native Analytics: Experience building Profit Curves, Scatter Analyses, Dashboards, and Reports to visually present profitability segments (e.g., Whale Curves for customer profitability).
3. Data Integration & Automation
Data Management / Data Integration: Strong knowledge of loading metadata and financial data from ERPs or General Ledgers into PCM, including configuring import formats, location mappings, and data load rules.
EPM Automate & REST APIs: Ability to write scripts to automate monthly data loads, POV copies, model calculations, and application backups.
Enterprise Data Management (EDM): Familiarity with how corporate governance tools sync dimensions across the wider EPM suite downstream into PCM/EPCM.
4. Functional & Domain Knowledge
Cost Accounting Frameworks: Strong foundational knowledge of Activity-Based Costing (ABC), shared services chargebacks, IT financial management (ITFM), and corporate overhead allocations.
Transfer Pricing & Regulatory Compliance: Understanding of how tax transfer pricing or regulatory cost justifications (e.g., in utilities or insurance) translate into allocation rules.
