This role’s primary responsibilities are to provide technical leadership and direction to a team to deliver high quality technology solutions in a fast-paced growth environment. This role is expected to demonstrate expertise in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. The Engineer is expected to rely on extensive experience and judgment to accomplish goals and perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the job. In this role the Consultant Software Engineer will provide technical leadership and direction across all Engineering teams – helping embed AI-enabled development approaches.
The Engineer takes ownership of engineering problems and solves them in novel ways by introducing AI-first mindset and shape how we work not just what we build.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Review, modify, develop, write and implement software applications, usually very complex in nature, with an AI-augmented approach.
Guide teams in building and refining world-class middleware and platform solutions.
Provide technical direction for the company and come up with novel ways to solve Engineering problems using AI.
Champion an AI-first engineering culture across team- introducing AI assigned code delivery, monitoring and proactive bug findings.
Identify opportunities to embed AI automation in the software lifecycle.
Serve as org’s authority on emerging AI development practices and champion AI adoption across engineering teams.
Build relationships with stakeholders of the teams to understand business context and requirements for the solutions that the project team is working to deliver.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
10+ years of proven hand-on software engineering experience with professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
5+ years of working as a technical lead guiding teams through technical decisions
Experience working in an Agile software development environment including participation in a team using one of the more commonly used process frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, XP, or Lean)
Expert level knowledge of AI IDEs with preference for Claude Code, Cursor, and Kiro
Proven ability to design and operate with an AI-first mindset including prompt engineering, context management and agentic coding pipelines
Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generations (RAG) techniques and strategies
Deep understanding of how to integrate AI tooling across the full SDLC – code regeneration, automated testing, documentation, code review and release process
Ability to evaluate emerging AI development tools and make data backed solutions to engineering leadership
Knowledge of computing and technical environments, such as operating systems, communication protocols, software applications, hardware platforms, etc.
Engineers must be available in a scheduled rotation for after-hours support of escalations of Instrument Manager and/or other DI products for critical issues with customers
Must comply with and pass initial background check and drug screening, as well as subsequent background checks, drug screenings and vaccine requirements as required by customer contracts
Ability to follow DI’s policies and procedures and system usage practices
Must comply with company vaccination policy
Must have unrestricted work authorization in the United States
Preferred skills and experience:
In addition to the above requirements, the ideal employee/candidate could additionally have experience with the following:
Experience with fine-tuning models.
Experience building or governing AI agent pipeline, Agent factories, AI agent pipelines.
Familiarity with AI governances and responsible AI practices.
Knowledge of the integration of laboratory information systems, analytical instrumentation, and automation systems.
Education and/or Experience
BS or MS degree in a computer science or related field, such as software development and a minimum of 10 years working in a related field OR at least 15 years working in a position as a software developer or similar position.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
While performing duties of this job, the employee is predominately functioning in a sedentary light office position with high frequency of telephone communication, keyboarding, and computer.
Supervision Level
This person reports directly to the VP of Global Engineering.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $164,847.00 - 210,598.00. Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and market data.
Bonus: Full-time, non-sales employees are eligible for DI's annual bonus plan, which takes into account individual, group, and corporate performance.
