Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Apprentice Optician/Optometric Assistant, where you'll play a vital role in supporting patient care and optical services. Duties

• Greet patients and customers warmly, providing exceptional customer service throughout their visit
• Assist with measuring visual acuity, taking vital signs, and recording medical history using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
• Support the dispensing of spectacle lenses and eyewear fittings, including frame adjustments and lens selection guidance
• Obtain insurance authorizations and calculate patient charges
• Educate patients on eyewear options, lens features, and proper care while adhering to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) policies for patient confidentiality
• Assist with clinic organization by managing medical records, verifying insurance information, and understanding state healthcare regulations and medical coding standardsRequirements
• Strong interest in ophthalmology, optometry, or related healthcare fields with a desire to learn clinical procedures and optics principles
• Basic math skills for measurements, billing calculations, and inventory management
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy (especially ocular anatomy), physiology, and health regulation policies
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally
• Ability to follow clinical confidentiality policies diligently while handling sensitive patient information
• Previous retail sales or optical experience is a plus but not required; training will be provided
• Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems, POS systems like Epic or similar platforms preferred
• Willingness to learn about medical coding, vital signs measurement, spectral lens dispensing, eyewear fitting techniques, and optical laboratory procedures
