About Our Practice

We are a small, tightly-knit, family-oriented veterinary clinic located in beautiful Somers, Connecticut. We pride ourselves in practicing high-quality veterinary medicine with an emphasis on finding the right solution to fit every client and patient. We try to adhere to fear-free practices, maintaining a low-stress environment and using medication to minimize disruption and upset for our patients.

We are open Mondays (7:00am-6:00pm), a half day on Tuesdays (7:00am-1:00pm), Wednesdays (7:00am-5:00pm), and Fridays (7:00am-4:00pm). We do not keep weekend hours, as we believe our staff deserve a healthy work-life balance.

Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate, dedicated part-time (25-30 hours per week) or full-time (32-40 hours per week) veterinary assistant trainee. Our ideal candidate is a responsible, motivated person looking to begin a career in veterinary healthcare, who is passionate about animal welfare. Experience with animal care and handling is encouraged. We will consider candidates currently working in veterinary medicine if they are an excellent fit for this clinic.

General Responsibilities:

• Assisting veterinarians as needed throughout the daily schedule of appointments.
• Completing all assigned duties in a timely and professional manner.
• Adhering to all clinic policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Participating in team meetings and training as required.
• Communicating with clients both in-clinic and over the phone.

Role-Specific Duties:

• Maintaining cleanliness and preparedness of examination rooms, working space, and other parts of the clinic as needed.
• Preparing vaccines, medication, and food for clients to bring home.
• Scheduling appointments and managing the clinic's calendar in consultation with veterinary staff.
• Supporting veterinarians during examinations by restraining animals as needed.
• Observing and supporting surgical team during surgical procedures.
• Handling incoming calls, providing information about services, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
• Processing patient records, maintaining accurate medical files, and ensuring confidentiality.
• Taking patient health histories and discussing owner concerns.
• Processing checkout and taking payment in person and over the phone.

Qualifications (Required)

• Familiarity with animal handling and basic pet care.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to empathize with pet owners.
• Ability to work well as part of a team while maintaining attention to detail.
• Basic proficiency in computer use (training on practice-specific veterinary systems will be provided).

Qualifications (Helpful, but not required)

• Experience with animal restraint.
