Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Transmission Planning Engineering Manager to lead transmission analysis and interconnection strategy for utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects across major U.S. power markets. This role will support project development through interconnection, transmission planning studies, and grid integration analysis across multiple ISOs/RTOs, including CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, PJM, and MISO.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience performing power flow, load flow, and interconnection/cluster studies using TARA and PSS/e, and a deep understanding of U.S. transmission planning processes and interconnection procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead transmission planning and interconnection studies for utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects across the United States.
- Perform and review power flow, load flow, short circuit, and stability studies using PSS/e and TARA.
- Support interconnection applications, cluster studies, and generator interconnection processes across major RTOs/ISOs.
- Evaluate transmission constraints, upgrade requirements, congestion risks, and interconnection costs.
- Develop transmission strategies for new project development and site selection.
- Manage external consultants performing transmission and interconnection studies.
- Provide technical guidance to development, engineering, and commercial teams.
- Review interconnection study reports (Feasibility, System Impact Study, Facilities Study).
- Track and analyze cluster study results and transmission upgrade timelines.
- Support project due diligence, acquisitions, and financing by providing transmission risk assessments.
- Stay current with RTO/ISO transmission planning processes, interconnection reforms, and policy changes.
- Manage and mentor transmission planning engineers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Minimum 5+years of experience in transmission planning, power systems analysis, or interconnection studies.
- Strong experience with:
- PSSe
- TARA
- Power flow and load flow analysis
- Short circuit and stability studies
- Transmission congestion analysis
- Experience working on interconnection and cluster studies in multiple RTO/ISO regions.
Preferred Experience with U.S. Power Markets
Experience working with interconnection processes in:
Technical Skills
- Power flow and contingency analysis
- Generator interconnection studies
- Transmission system planning
- NERC reliability standards
- Python or automation scripting for power system studies (preferred)
- GIS and transmission mapping tools (preferred)
- Production cost modeling exposure (PLEXOS, PROMOD, etc. – preferred)
Management Responsibilities
- Lead and manage transmission planning engineers and consultants.
- Establish transmission study standards and workflows.
- Coordinate with development, engineering, and regulatory teams.
- Manage study budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
- Support executive leadership with transmission strategy and risk analysis.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $160,000.00 - $220,000.00 per year
