POSITION TITLE: Behaviorist

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Behaviorist is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and monitoring behavior support services for persons served in accordance with South Carolina DDSN/OIDD Behavior Support Standards. The Behaviorist provides training and consultation to staff, ensuring that individuals receive positive, evidence-based interventions designed to improve quality of life, increase independence, and reduce problem behaviors.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts FAI (assessment interview tool- O’Neil 2014), functional behavioral assessments (FBA) including direct observation, interviews, antecedent-behavior-consequence (ABC) analysis, preference assessments, and data review.
2. Develops individualized Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) based on assessment results, ensuring strategies are positive, proactive, and person-centered.
3. Provides training and coaching to staff, and other team members to ensure consistent and accurate BSP implementation.
4. Collects, reviews, and analyzes behavioral data to monitor progress and make plan adjustments as needed.
5. Submits timely documentation in accordance with OIDD, Medicaid, and agency requirements.
6. Ensures compliance with all OIDD policies, including those related to Behavior Support, Psychotropic Medications, Human Rights, and Consent.
7. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborates with case managers, clinicians, and other providers to coordinate services.
8. Provides ongoing consultation and technical assistance to staff and supervisors regarding positive behavior support.
9. Assists in the pre-enrollment process by reviewing assessments, records, and other documentation relevant to behavioral needs.
10. Provides input and review at Psychotropic Drug Reviews (PDRs) and ensures alignment with BSP recommendations.
11. Monitors for health, safety, and accountability of persons served during the implementation of behavior support services.
12. Ensures behavior support services are individualized, one-to-one, and not provided in group settings. Fidelity Checks are to take place in the programs applicable to the behavior support plans, not just a classroom setting.
13. Maintains compliance with state and federal regulations, licensing authorities, and agency policies.
14. Provides statistical reporting, evaluation data, and progress summaries as directed.
15. Participates in agency in-service trainings, new staff orientations, and other professional development activities as needed.
16. Supports a safe, positive, and clean work environment, modeling professionalism and ethical behavior at all times.
17. Provides technical assistance to staff regarding behavioral data entry, analysis, and reporting in Therap or other designated systems.
18. Assists in crisis intervention planning and provides direct consultation during behavioral crises when necessary.
19. Ensures staff demonstrate competency in implementation of BSPs through observation, feedback, and retraining as needed. (See #12 regarding Fidelity Checks above).
20. Reviews and updates BSPs at least annually or more frequently based on data and team input, or sooner based on life changes.
21. Works with Human Rights Committees to ensure compliance with all review and approval processes related to behavior plans.
22. Coordinates with medical professionals when psychotropic medications are part of the individual’s overall treatment plan.
23. Provides in-service training for employees related to behavior supports, positive behavior intervention, and best practices.
24. Collaborates with the Transportation Coordinator and other staff to address behavioral concerns related to transportation.
25. Participates in daily supervisory floor monitoring of services for those whom receive behavior support services.
26. Maintains records, reports, and documentation as required under RH 5.0-5.5 and/or OIDD Standards, including FAIs, assessments, BSPs, graphs, visual analysis and PDRs.
27. Ensures ongoing communication with families/guardians/ case managers and staff regarding progress and behavioral strategies.
28. Maintains client safety and security while promoting independence, dignity, and quality of life.
Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour
