Position Summary
The Mechanical / CAD Engineer is responsible for designing, drafting, modeling, documenting, and supporting mechanical systems, machinery, fabricated assemblies, and finished metal parts. This position uses CAD software to create accurate 2D drawings, 3D models, bills of material, renderings, and technical documentation that meet customer specifications, production requirements, delivery timelines, andi nstallation needs.
This role works closely with engineering, production, fabrication, purchasing, project management, sales, service, and external customers to support new product development, custom equipment design, production improvement, and ongoing drawing control.
The ideal candidate has strong CAD skills, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to translate written, verbal, and technical requirements into accurate manufacturing-ready documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Study and interpret diagrams, sketches, blueprints, specifications, templates, contract documents, and customer requirements to create accurate designs, drawings, models, and production documentation.
Create 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies, layouts, and renderings using CAD software.
Design and document machinery, fabricated assemblies, formed steel parts, welded assemblies,machined parts, process piping, and other mechanical components.
Create, revise, and maintain design drawings, assembly drawings, manufacturing drawings,installation drawings, and technical documentation.
Prepare drawing revisions and updates based on internal reviews, customer feedback, productionneeds, and field requirements.
Develop and maintain bills of material, weight calculations, part specifications, and supportingtechnical records.
Enter accurate design specifications into CAD software and company systems.
Create accurate drawings and models from written and verbal specifications provided by internaland external customers.
Work with engineers, drafting professionals, designers, production personnel, customers, and otherstakeholders to review drawings, specifications, CAD models, and requested changes.
Document review notes, research design requests, and implement approved corrections, revisions,and updates.
Assist with project management activities, including planning, creating project outlines, identifyingproject milestones, refining schedules, and supporting deadlines.
Support new product development from concept through design, prototyping, testing, productionrelease, and ongoing improvement.
Review existing products, drawings, and processes to identify opportunities for improvement, costreduction, manufacturability, and serviceability.
Ensure designs and documentation support customer specifications, manufacturing capabilities,delivery requirements, and installation requirements.
Review blueprints, specifications, design drawings, and models to help ensure compliance withapplicable health, safety, quality, and industry standards.
Support manufacturing planning and review by producing accurate and timely technicaldocumentation.
Help develop, refine, and follow systems, procedures, and processes used to track parts, rawmaterials, production requirements, and product assembly.
Assist with testing, quality control procedures, and production review processes to analyze, record,and evaluate in-process and completed production results.
Utilize company ERP systems to manage and support design, production, documentation, testing,and inventory-related processes.
Work with others to maintain and improve the company’s drawing control and documentmanagement systems.
Follow company drafting standards and design documentation protocols to help protect companyintellectual property.
Provide technical support to production, fabrication, assembly, and service teams as needed.
Assist with troubleshooting production issues, field concerns, warranty questions, and customer-specific technical requests.
Required Qualifications
Must be enrolled in or have completed AutoCAD, computer drafting, CAD design, mechanical design,mechanical engineering, or related coursework.
Experience using current AutoCAD software is required.
Experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, or similar is preferred.
Ability to read, understand, and effectively translate technical drawings, blueprints, specifications,and customer requirements.
Basic understanding of machine design, mechanical systems, fabricated parts, welded assemblies,and manufactured components.
Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Excel.
Solid math and reasoning skills, including the ability to prepare, compile, and validate data,calculations, reports, and technical documentation.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to learn and follow company drafting standards, documentation procedures, safetyrequirements, and quality control processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing or drafting industrial equipment, machinery, frames, enclosures, piping,pumping systems, or fabricated metal assemblies.
Experience creating bills of material and production-ready manufacturing documentation.
Familiarity with ERP systems, inventory tracking, product costing, and manufacturing workflows.
Knowledge of design for manufacturability, design for assembly, and design for serviceability.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
