Overview
Join our dynamic team as a Network/Systems Engineer/Database Administrator (DBA), where you'll be at the forefront of designing, deploying, securing and supporting hybrid cloud and on-premises network and database infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, reliability and security for critical business systems at Coastal.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain resilient network and database infrastructures meeting SLA/RPO/RTO targets.
- Implement and troubleshoot Always on AGs, FCIs, and hybrid cloud DB architectures.
- Collaborate with security team to enforce network/database hardening standards.
- Optimize performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency of SQL and network resources.
- The network/security administrator works independently within the established procedures to ensure network security access and protect against unauthorized access, modifications, or destruction. Your responsibilities include performing risk assessments, audits, staff training sessions, maintaining and monitoring network activity.
- Maintains and supports current data information system and applications.
- Installing, administering, and troubleshooting network systems and security solutions.
- Updating software with the latest security patches and ensuring the proper defenses are present for each network resource.
- Performing vulnerability and penetration tests, identifying and defending against threats, and developing disaster recovery plans.
- Configuring security systems, analyzing security requirements, and recommending improvements.
- Monitoring network traffic for suspicious behavior.
- Creating network policies and authorization roles and defending against unauthorized access, modifications, and destruction.
- Consulting with staff, managers, and executives about the best security practices and providing technical advice.
- Configuring and supporting security tools, such as firewalls and anti-virus software.
- Training staff to understand and use security protocols.
- Maintains a working knowledge of, and adheres to applicable federal/state regulations including but not limited to, laws related to patient confidentiality, release of information, and HIPAA/HITECH.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- The physical demands of this position involve sedentary work constantly remaining in a stationary position, sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- It may include exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Constantly communicating with others to express or exchange information by means of the spoken word and/or in writing.
- The visual acuity requirements of this position involve (including color, depth perception, and field of vision) to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and/or analyzing data and figures; constantly viewing a computer terminal and/or extensive reading.
- Working Conditions of this position involve constant typical office or administrative work. No adverse environmental conditions expected.
- This position will require to travel to local and data center locations as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Network Engineering (Microsoft & Linux)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-scale Windows/Linux network environments.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Azure Networking (ExpressRoute, VPN, ASG), Windows Server, Hyper-V/SCVMM.
- Strong proficiency with Linux: RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu administration, Bash/Python scripting, systems, SSH.
- Expertise in network protocols: TCP/IP, BGP/OSPF, VLANs, SD-WAN, MPLS, TLS/SSL.
- Experience with network virtualization (NSX, NVMe over Fabrics).
- Proficiency with network monitoring tools (PRTG, Wireshark, Prometheus/Grafana).
Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) – High Availability & Clustering
- 3+ years of direct experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration, including:
Always On Availability Groups (AGs): Configuration, failover, monitoring, listener setup, read-scale replicas, disaster recovery.
Failover Cluster Instances (FCI): Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC), shared storage (SAN/iSCSI), quorum models, troubleshooting cluster health.
Backup/restore strategies, log shipping, database mirroring (legacy).
- Experience automating SQL HA/DR tasks via PowerShell/T-SQL.
- Knowledge of SQL security (TDE, column-level encryption), performance tuning, and monitoring (SQL Profiler, DMVs, Extended Events).
General Systems & Security
- Strong understanding of security best practices: network segmentation, Zero Trust principles, vulnerability scanning, patch management (WSUS, SCCM, Ansible), and compliance (NIST, ISO 27001).
- Experience with automation/configuration management (Ansible, PowerShell DSC, Terraform).
- Familiarity with SIEM (Splunk, Sentinel), endpoint security, and IAM solutions.
Soft Skills & Collaboration
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with DevOps, security, and application teams.
- Strong documentation, incident response, and after-hours on-call skills.
- Advanced training certifications may be advantageous.
- A strong understanding and knowledge of computer, network, and security systems.
- Good teaching, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
WAH (Work at Home) &TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have reliable high-speed internet. Minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 10 x 1 (10mbs download x 1mbs upload) required. Must have a separate private workspace / desk area designated for home office to ensure absolute and continuous privacy while at work.
This position will require to go to the office and data center locations as needed.

1. Microsoft: Azure Administrator Associate, MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure (legacy)
2. Linux: RHCSA/RHCE
3. Networking: CCNA, CCNP Enterprise
4. Database: Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
5. Experience with MySQL Server on Linux (HA configurations, cluster integration).
6. Knowledge of cloud-native DB solutions: Azure SQL Managed Instance, Amazon RDS/Aurora.
7. Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) experience (Terraform, ARM/Bicep, CloudFormation).
8. Exposure to Kubernetes networking (CNI plugins, service meshes).
