Coil Unloader – Rail & Barge Operations
Bayou Processing and Storage – San Jacinto County, TX
Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM | Full-Time

About the Role
Bayou Processing and Storage is looking for a safety-conscious, dependable team member to join our operations crew as a Material Handler. This critical role supports the movement of heavy steel coils arriving by rail and barge. You’ll be working outdoors, on or near the water, using rigging and heavy equipment to safely unload and position steel coils for processing.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely unload steel coils from railroad cars and barges using overhead cranes and rigging equipment.
• Follow all safety and operational procedures when working near water, elevated surfaces, and moving equipment.
• Inspect incoming coils and assist in documentation and tagging.
• Assist with rigging and coil positioning in receiving yard.
• Maintain clean and safe work areas on docks, barges, and rail tracks.
• Wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including flotation devices as needed.
• Report safety hazards, near misses, or incidents promptly and accurately.
• Support other yard and processing functions as directed by the Receiving Supervisor.

Work Environment & Safety Requirements

• Must be comfortable working over and near water, including on docks and barges.
• Required to wear a personal flotation device (PFD) and safety gear at all times when working near water.
• Exposure to outdoor weather year-round, including heat, rain, and cold.
• Will regularly climb onto and off of rail cars, ladders, or gangways.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk on concrete or metal grating for extended periods, and work in noisy, industrial environments.
• Safety is non-negotiable, we follow all OSHA, company regulations, and other request agencies to protect our team members.

What You Bring

• Prior experience in freight, marine, steel, or industrial environments is preferred.
• Familiarity with rigging, overhead cranes, or coil handling is a strong plus.
• Able to follow verbal and written instructions, maintain situational awareness, and stay focused in high-risk areas.
• Willingness to learn, work as a team, and follow all safety rules and reporting procedures.

Additional Requirements

• Pre-employment drug screening and background check required.
• Must have reliable transportation to/from the facility in Jacinto City / Galena Park Area.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently on a routine basis and handle materials safely as part of daily job duties.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and maintain safe body positioning while performing tasks and moving through the work area, including walking on concrete floors and uneven surfaces.

• Manual agility to operate tools safely and effectively, with regular use of arms, shoulders, and back for lifting, reaching, and positioning tasks.
• Ability to work safely in a warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
• Maintain adequate visual and auditory acuity to safely perform assigned tasks, including but not limited to: identifying potential hazards, reading and/or recording measurements, inspecting materials, and responding promptly to verbal instructions, alarms or hand signals in the work environment

• Physical assessment: required for all Production and Distribution positions, conducted by a company-designated physician at no cost to the candidate.
