The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and process optimization of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) automation equipment.

It is a fully remote position, combining visits to client sites to provide services with working from home when not on-site

Salary: $65K to $88K BOE

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

• Equipment Installation & Commissioning: Perform on-site installation, configuration, and startup of SMT automation systems across North America.
• Upgrades & Retrofits: Execute system retrofits, upgrades, and custom equipment modifications.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, software, and process-related issues.
• Technical Support: Provide advanced technical support both onsite and remotely, ensuring minimal customer downtime.
• Engineering Escalation: Collaborate with internal technical teams to escalate and resolve advanced engineering issues.
• Training Delivery: Deliver structured operator and maintenance training for customer personnel.
• Process Optimization: Advise customers on best practices for process optimization, preventive maintenance, and system efficiency.
• Data Analysis: Collect and analyze technical data for troubleshooting, reliability tracking, and process improvement.
• Documentation: Prepare clear, detailed service reports, documentation, and feedback to customers and company management.
• Customer Liaison: Serve as a technical liaison between customers and internal engineering departments.
• Communication: Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical & Soft Skills:

• Proficiency with interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and mechatronic system diagrams.
• Comprehensive understanding of Windows-based operating systems, software installation, and system configuration.
• Familiarity with networking concepts and modern computing applications.
• Industrial automation expertise.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with a customer-first mindset.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Other duties as assigned by the Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Travel Requirements:

• Travel up to 75% throughout assigned territory/nationwide.
• Flexibility to travel with short notice and for extended periods of time.
• Overnight travel may be required.
• Valid Driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
• Ability to travel by air and car.

Experience and Education:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, or related field) or equivalent combination of technical education, military training, or relevant experience.
• Experience with SMT equipment is strongly preferred, or experience with similar automation machinery.
• Strong background in mechanical and electrical diagnostics, repair, and preventative maintenance.

Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily at customer manufacturing facilities, and may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, and varying temperatures and moderate noise levels.

Physical Requirements:

Employees are required daily to stand, walk, and work with hand and automated tools. Employees are required to climb or balance, reach for controls, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and stand for long periods. Must occasionally lift, move, push, or pull up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $88,000.00 per year
