Reports To: Executive Leadership Team | Status: Full-time, Exempt | Location: On-site, corporate office
Position Summary
This is not a traditional Controller role. The right candidate has Controller-level accounting fluency plus the discipline to build, audit, and maintain processes, hold external vendors accountable, and quarterback portfolio onboarding. The position partners directly with the C-Suite and subsidiary leaders to bring rigor, repeatability, and audit-readiness to the corporate side of the business.
Core Responsibilities
1. Corporate Accounting
- Holding-company books & consolidation: Own the corporate ledger, monthly close, and consolidated financial reporting across all subsidiaries.
- Financial reporting & analysis: Prepare and deliver timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial packages to senior leadership, including variance analysis and KPI commentary.
- Intercompany transactions: Design and maintain a clean intercompany framework across all Concord entities, including elimination entries and transfer pricing documentation.
- Corporate billbacks: Initiate, document, and audit corporate-level billbacks to subsidiaries and clients; ensure no expense sits at corporate that belongs to an operating entity.
- Corporate tax & compliance: Lead corporate tax filings and partner with external tax advisors; ensure timely and accurate compliance across all corporate entities, including sales tax, 1099s, and annual reports.
- Cash management: Manage corporate-level cash, vendor payments, and treasury relationships, including cash flow forecasting; maintain financial discipline and serve as a check on cash commitments when business decisions are being evaluated.
- Audit & internal controls: Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors; maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures to support a clean audit and SOX-ready environment.
- Property & portfolio transitions: Lead seamless onboarding of new management portfolios within the management business — and end-to-end ownership of the Onboard/Offboard Procedure, including all transition documents, templates, timelines, and workflows.
- Team & systems leadership: Own the ERP and accounting systems at the corporate level, driving process improvements and automation where possible; manage and develop accounting staff as deemed necessary.
- Cross-functional partnership: Collaborate with HR, Operations, Legal, and Senior Leadership to support budgeting, entity structuring, and ad hoc financial analysis as the business grows.
2. Systems and Optimization (S&O)
- Master audit calendar steward: ensure each recurring audit has a documented owner, cadence, and procedure, and oversee the audit execution schedule for compliance and completion.
- SOPs & process build: translate institutional knowledge into documented procedures.
- Vendor accountability: own the relationship with our vendors; set expectations, manage corporate contracts, and ensure deliverables stay on track.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master's Degree, CPA, or substantial progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or equivalent senior-level position.
- Demonstrated experience with multi-entity / consolidated accounting and intercompany transactions.
- Property management, real estate, or real estate investment industry experience strongly preferred.
- Comfort managing external vendors and holding partners accountable for deliverables.
- Direct experience with QuickBooks (both Desktop and Online) and Yardi (any version) is a significant plus; comfort with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and modern collaboration tools is required.
Who You Are
- A time management master: You are excellent with time management and are able to identify challenges and provide resolution with minimal guidance.
- A communicator: You are comfortable managing both up and down the chain and can seamlessly switch between the two.
- A builder and a finisher: You see a gap and close it with a process, checklist, or calendar; you drive issues to resolution.
- A confidant for the company: You will sit at the center of corporate financial information and must be tactful, discreet, and trustworthy.
- A steady hand under pressure: You stay composed when deadlines stack up, audits loom, or competing priorities pull in different directions — and your team knows they can count on you.
- A principled voice: You are comfortable raising a concern or pushing back on a decision when the numbers don't support it, and you do so with professionalism and confidence.
