About Skagit Friendship House

Skagit Friendship House has served Skagit County since 1986. We operate emergency shelters, transitional housing, a Community Café providing free daily meals seven days a week, and the Hunger to Hope Culinary Apprenticeship Program. We are the only organization in Skagit County offering free meals every day without eligibility screening — no ID, no income verification, no barriers.

We are growing. Thanks to a new WSDA Resiliency Grant, we’re doubling our nightly community dinner service and expanding bag lunch delivery routes across the county. To make that happen, we’re building the volunteer infrastructure to match.

The Role

This is a newly created, grant-funded position that is central to our meal program expansion. You’ll be responsible for rebuilding and expanding SFH’s volunteer base — from 20 active volunteers back to the 60+ needed to sustain and grow daily operations.

Your core work will include:

• Recruiting, onboarding, and training volunteers from congregations, civic clubs, businesses, schools, and the community
• Building and managing volunteer schedules for dinner production, bag lunch prep, and seven-day delivery routes
• Managing SFH’s seven-day Monthly Meal Club congregational partner teams
• Coordinating volunteer-supported meal deliveries to established community partner organizations across Skagit County
• Staffing weekend volunteer outreach events and coordinating community group volunteer days at SFH facilities
• Tracking volunteer hours and meal counts; contributing to grant reporting
• Serving as the primary contact for current and prospective volunteers

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone organized, relational, and mission-driven. You don’t need a formal social services background — but you do need to be someone who shows up, follows through, and genuinely enjoys building community.

Required:

• 2+ years in volunteer coordination, program coordination, community outreach, or a closely related role
• Strong scheduling and organizational skills across a seven-day operation
• Comfort building relationships with diverse partners: faith leaders, civic organizations, social service agencies, and people experiencing homelessness
• Commitment to trauma-informed, dignity-centered service
• Availability for regular weekend events including volunteer outreach, community group days, and donor-facing activities
• Valid WA driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance
• Ability to pass a Washington State criminal history background and DOL/DMV check — prior record does not automatically disqualify applicants; each background is reviewed individually in accordance with Washington State law and SFH policy

Preferred (not required):

• Experience in shelter, food programs, or community-based nonprofits
• Bilingual Spanish/English
• Familiarity with WorkFirst, DSHS, or employment security systems
• Experience with grant-funded programs or documentation

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly: $21.63-$32.08. depending on experience

Classification: Non-Exempt (hourly, overtime-eligible)

Healthcare: Employee healthcare coverage per organizational benefits policy

Meals: Free community meals during all shifts

Funding: Grant-funded for one year (July 2026–June 2027); eligible for conversion to permanent position at end of grant term
