Position Summary
The Church Musician & Worship Music Coordinator provides music leadership for weekly worship services, collaborates with the pastor in worship planning, and coordinates volunteer musicians to support congregational singing and participation in worship. This part-time position averages 5–8 hours per week and is focused on creating a meaningful and engaging worship experience.
Primary Responsibilities
Worship Music Leadership
- Serve as the primary pianist, guitarist, or accompanist for weekly worship services.
- Select and prepare music in consultation with the pastor.
- Lead congregational singing and worship music.
- Accompany vocalists and instrumentalists when available.
- Arrive sufficiently early for worship preparation, rehearsal, and sound check.
Worship Planning
- Meet or communicate regularly with the pastor regarding worship themes, liturgical seasons, and music selections.
- Coordinate hymns, service music, and special music appropriate to the worship service.
- Maintain a schedule of music selections and participating musicians.
Volunteer Music Coordination
- Recruit, schedule, and encourage volunteer musicians and singers.
- Coordinate and lead rehearsals as needed for volunteers participating in worship services.
- Foster participation from congregation members with musical gifts.
Music Administration
- Maintain the church’s music library and worship music resources.
- Ensure music usage complies with applicable copyright and licensing requirements.
- Communicate music-related needs and schedules with church staff and volunteers.
Seasonal Worship Services
- Coordinate music for Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Easter, and other special worship services.
- Organize occasional special music presentations during worship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in piano, guitar, or another instrument suitable for worship leadership.
- Ability to lead congregational singing confidently and effectively.
- Familiarity with Christian worship music, hymns, and liturgical traditions.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, volunteers, and congregation members.
- Commitment to supporting the mission and ministry of the church.
