POSITION: Combination Technician

Job Description:

The Combination Technician is responsible for the installation, servicing, and upgrading of telephone, television and Internet services at customer premises and for corresponding connection to the central office. Most technicians concentrate on installing initial wiring or rewiring for new subscriber systems and work at the telco business office, repairing CPE that customers bring in themselves. The Combination technician must be familiar with all facilities of the exchange distribution network. In addition, installer, repairers install and maintain various phone systems and other nonregulated equipment and carry out technical duties for diversified services, such as Cable TV and Internet.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Makes all types of single-line telephone installations, including identifying correct cable pair in pedestal or on terminal block, installing and properly grounding drop, inside wiring and station protector; installs wall telephones with concealed wiring, plugs, jacks and extension bells.
• Locates trouble in single-line telephone installations and repairs or replaces faults.
• Checks loops and records proper readings, uses test sets and interprets readings to locate line trouble, localizes line trouble, determines necessary repairs and changes cable pairs if required.
• Picks up color-coded pairs and installs loading coils in ready-access enclosure or underground pedestal, installs and properly arranges inside wiring cable in key system terminal blocks.
• Installs or assists central office staff in the installation or switching and related equipment, performs periodic maintenance on switches, batteries, chargers and related equipment.
• Installs or assists with phone systems and associated equipment, including automatic answering devices, facsimile terminals, coupling devices, automatic dialers and paging and intercom systems.
• Installs and maintains data equipment and modems and four-wire circuits.
• Repairs trouble in cable plant, drop wire, station wiring and telephones, works with central office personnel to diagnose and repair trouble in carrier systems and related equipment.
• Installs and maintains equipment for diversified telco services
• Installs underground cable and conduit in trenches; assist with installing cables into the conduits, which involves pushing and pulling of cables.
• Ability to complete aerial work, which involves climbing poles and ladders and the ability to climb in and out of bucket trucks.
• Ability to install cable television and run trouble.
• Ability to splice coax.
• Competent to work on FTTH (Fiber to the Home) equipment.
• Ability to install cable modems, set top boxes and DSL.
• Can splice or assist with splicing fiber.(willing to learn how to splice)
• Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Education and Experience:

High School Degree or GED required. Knowledge and skills usually acquired through training in electronics and one to two years of experience in telephone plant operations. Must have a Valid Drivers License.

Other qualifications:

Employee must have a valid drivers license. Employees cover the service area of Wapakoneta, St. Johns, Uniopolis, St. Marys, Freyburg, Cridersville, Lima, Shawnee, Waynesfield, MiddlePoint and Moulton. Employees utilize company vehicles for transportation to the various service areas. Employee will drive in order to install and maintain our equipment to give our customers the superior service they expect and deserve.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• On call
• Weekend availability

Supplemental Pay:

• Bonus pay
