About the Role
We are looking for a highly analytical Data Analyst to help drive product and business decisions through data. In this role, you will work closely with product managers, game designers, operations teams, and engineers to analyze player behavior, evaluate game performance, and identify opportunities to improve engagement, retention, monetization, and overall player experience.
You will be responsible for transforming large-scale player and game data into actionable insights, designing and evaluating experiments, building scalable analytics solutions, and supporting strategic decision-making across game operations and product development.
We're looking for someone with strong statistical thinking, hands-on experience working with large datasets, solid Python skills, and a deep understanding of game analytics and product metrics. Fluency in Chinese is required, and you must be able to work on-site in Irvine, CA.
Responsibilities
Product Analytics & Business Insights
- Analyze player behavior, engagement, retention, monetization, and lifecycle metrics to identify opportunities for product improvement.
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Game Designers, and Operations teams to define key business questions and provide data-driven recommendations.
- Develop KPI frameworks and performance measurement systems to evaluate product health and business performance.
- Conduct deep-dive analyses on player segments, conversion funnels, feature adoption, monetization behavior, and user journeys.
- Translate ambiguous business problems into structured analytical approaches and actionable insights.
Game Analytics & Operations Support
- Monitor and evaluate game performance across retention, engagement, progression, monetization, and player experience metrics.
- Analyze the effectiveness of game events, feature launches, promotions, reward systems, and live operations initiatives.
- Identify trends, anomalies, risks, and opportunities through player behavior analysis.
- Collaborate with game designers and product teams to evaluate gameplay systems, progression systems, game economy, and feature performance.
- Support game launches, content updates, and post-release performance reviews through datadriven analysis.
Experimentation & Statistical Analysis
- Design, execute, and evaluate A/B tests and controlled experiments.
- Define experiment frameworks, success metrics, sample size requirements, and statistical validation methodologies.
- Apply hypothesis testing, statistical inference, and causal thinking to measure product impact accurately.
- Ensure experiment conclusions are statistically sound and actionable for business stakeholders.
- Clearly communicate experiment results and recommendations to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
Large-Scale Data Processing & Analytics Engineering
- Work with large-scale datasets generated from player activity, gameplay events, transactions, and operational systems.
- Develop scalable analytical workflows using Python and SQL.
- Utilize distributed data processing frameworks such as PySpark to efficiently process highvolume datasets.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to improve data quality, event tracking, and analytics infrastructure.
- Validate data integrity, identify tracking issues, and proactively improve data reliability.
Reporting & Decision Support
- Build dashboards, reports, and monitoring systems to support product and operational decisionmaking.
- Develop automated reporting solutions to improve analytical efficiency and visibility.
- Create clear visualizations and presentations that communicate key findings and recommendations.
- Deliver actionable insights that influence product strategy, game design, and business priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 3+ years of experience in Data Analytics, Product Analytics, Business Analytics, or a related role.
- Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, and exploratory data analysis.
- Strong SQL skills with experience querying and analyzing large-scale datasets.
- Experience working with big data technologies and distributed processing frameworks, preferably PySpark.
- Strong understanding of statistics, probability, hypothesis testing, and experimental design.
- Hands-on experience designing, executing, and evaluating A/B tests.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to derive actionable insights from complex datasets.
- Experience building dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Tableau, Looker, Power BI, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of product metrics and data-driven product development.
- Ability to communicate analytical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Fluency in Chinese (Required).

Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience in gaming, mobile applications, consumer products, or online platforms.
- Strong understanding of game analytics, player behavior analysis, retention analysis, engagement analysis, and monetization metrics.
- Experience conducting cohort analysis, funnel analysis, segmentation analysis, and lifetime value (LTV) analysis.
- Familiarity with game operations, live events, player progression systems, and feature performance evaluation.
- Experience working with event-tracking systems and large-scale behavioral datasets.
- Knowledge of causal inference methodologies and advanced experimentation techniques.
- Experience applying machine learning techniques to business or product analytics problems.
- Familiarity with AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Airflow, or other modern analytics platforms.
- Experience supporting product strategy, feature development, and operational decision-making through data.
- Passion for gaming and strong curiosity about player behavior and product optimization.
