Background

The Office of U.S. Representative Greg Stanton seeks a Senior Legislative Assistant for the Washington, D.C. office. The Senior Legislative Assistant will manage the Congressman's work on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where he serves as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management. In addition, this person will handle an extremely active immigration portfolio, among other issues of interest.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer and policy thinker who can move comfortably between research, stakeholder engagement, legislative strategy, constituent needs, and public-facing communications. The position requires sound judgment, attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to work in a fast-moving congressional office.

Core Responsibilities

Legislative & Policy Portfolio Management

• Lead and execute the Congressman’s work as a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
• Draft legislative memos, talking points, constituent responses, briefing materials, and other written products.
• Work with staff to develop and advance legislation.
• Track policy developments, legislation, and committee activity relevant to assigned portfolio.

Stakeholder Engagement & External Relations

• Meet with constituents, advocacy organizations, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to inform policy development.
• Build and maintain relationships with key partners.
• Identify strategic opportunities through stakeholder engagement and coalition building.
• Support the office’s Constituent Advisory Council program by providing legislative updates and support to assigned councils.
• Serve as a point of contact for stakeholders on assigned issue areas.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
• Exceptional writing, research, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
• Demonstrated interest in public service.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior Capitol Hill experience.
• Experience handling transportation or immigration policy issues.
