Undergraduate Education Research and Innovation
The Undergraduate Education Research and Innovation (UERI) team within Undergraduate Education and Student Success (OUESS)¿s is charged with developing a division-wide research and innovation agenda designed to advance student success, identify and address the most pressing student needs, and prepare the talent and leaders required for 2030 and beyond. This work will respond to a rapidly changing educational and workforce ecosystem through predictive analytics, data-informed decision-making, innovative program design, and collaborative applied research strategies.
UERI success requires transformative change to enable new teaching and learning approaches; strong collaborative applied research and design methods to test theories, techniques, and future ready technologies aimed at discovering and building success models to fulfill the Georgia Tech and OUESS mission, as well as meet the evolving needs of a growing and diverse study body within the rapidly changing Atlanta and global tech ecosystem. By designing and testing educational and talent development techniques in actual classrooms, experiential learning, co-curricular, and student support programs, UERI develops proven data-driven solutions that result in optimal student outcomes through creative institutional change and collaborative strategic ecosystem cultivation.
This position reports to the Executive Director of Undergraduate Education Research and Innovation.
Note on Working Time
This position must be available to work standard GT business hours M-F, 8-5 (or 7-4 or 9-6), as well as some evenings as weekends based on student programs and with advanced notice. Job Summary
This Postdoctoral Research and Innovation Associate appointment is annual and renewable up to 5 years.
This position will be exposed to various interdisciplinary and collaborative research and program design opportunities focused on the higher education context. This position will report to the executive director of undergraduate education research and innovation in OUESS, who will guide practices in the design and methodology of research and piloting of innovative programming. This position will also work closely with OUESS faculty and staff, data and assessment tea, and UERI collaborative local and global partners, including research scientists, data analysts, technologists, faculty and staff, and graduate and undergraduate research and innovation assistants to solve complex problems and explore innovative program application across the pipeline from high school into post-baccalaureate pathways.
The successful candidate for this position will be proficient in quantitative and qualitative research methods, be knowledgeable in data science and analytics research topics, follow current literature and trends in innovations in STEM higher education, have experience in student program design and innovation models, and possess an outstanding academic writing background. This position is expected to generate compelling research questions, analyze large-scale learning data, conduct high-quality research, lead division level program design initiatives, develop strong collaborative networks, and publish research work. The candidate is expected to co-lead, with support from the executive director of research in education innovation, data-driven education research and innovation designs with a special focus on understanding students in various learning environments, including non-traditional pathways and learning environments.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities related to this position include:
Conduct novel educational research at the intersection of data science, machine learning, AI, immersive technologies, and education
Conduct scientific reviews of research, assessment, evaluation, and statistical analyses
Offer educational research support to faculty, staff and administration in UERI/OUESS and Georgia Tech based on evidence-based data insights and statistics
Develop evidence-based student success program design models and pilot proposals
Support the completing of grant proposals and innovation funding requests
Partner with faculty and other campus units engaged in educational research, such as the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the College of Lifetime Learning (CLL); Engage in collaboration meetings and networking activities
Work with other OUESS and campus units to help initiate and pilot student success programs involving academic enrichment, experiential learning, and honors programming projects.
Ensure ethical and secure data practices
Prepare as directed, any written products to convey research-based knowledge and information to a variety of audiences
Engage in dissemination of UERI research and test findings and outreach activities
Participate in the teaching activities in support of the Executive Director's courses and course development

Successful experience with managing large-scale educational data and projects
Experience or interest in machine learning, AI, immersive technologies, human-centered technologies and natural language processing techniques
Proficiency in programming language
Knowledge in pedagogical models
Willingness to learn new areas and technologies
Record of publications in learning analytics or student success programming design
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience with interdisciplinary cooperation and strong teamwork skills.
Proposed Salary
Salary Range: $65,000 to $70,000, will be commensurate with experience.
