Seeking candidates for Staff Engineer – Traffic and Development at the City of Brentwood, TN
Starting salary (Pending June 22 Commission Approval) is $88,769 - $97,656 depending on qualifications and experience.
Up to 5% salary increase after successful completion of six-month probationary period.
Plus: Transportation Allowance up to $2,000/year to be distributed equally over 26 pay periods annually.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines and technical tools including a computer, printer, calculator, telephone, drafting and review software, measuring devices, and related equipment. Must be able to conduct field inspections of construction sites and stormwater infrastructure, which may require walking over uneven terrain, climbing moderate slopes, entering construction areas, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to exert up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally and/or up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are consistent with a combination of sedentary office work and light field inspection activities.
DATA CONCEPTION: Requires the ability to compare, analyze, and evaluate technical, regulatory, and construction-related data; interpret hydrologic and hydraulic calculations; and assess compliance with municipal and state standards.
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to communicate technical and regulatory information effectively with supervisors, Engineering Technicians, contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, and the general public. May require providing direction to technical staff in coordination with the supervising engineer.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Requires the ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, regulatory permits, technical reports, and compliance documentation. Requires the ability to prepare clear and concise written reports, compliance correspondence, and technical documentation. Requires the ability to speak clearly and professionally in meetings and public interactions.
INTELLIGENCE: Requires the ability to understand and apply basic to moderately complex engineering principles and regulatory requirements; to exercise sound technical judgment within established policies; and to acquire knowledge of evolving stormwater and construction compliance standards.
VERBAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to explain technical requirements, inspection findings, and compliance deficiencies to contractors, staff, and stakeholders; and to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to apply engineering calculations, review quantity measurements, interpret hydrologic data, and verify numerical accuracy in construction documentation and compliance reporting.
FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to interpret construction drawings, site plans, drainage schematics, and topographic information.
MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using automated equipment and to operate inspection and measurement tools as needed.
MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of office and field inspection equipment, measuring devices, control knobs, switches, and related tools. Must have adequate hand coordination to perform inspection and documentation tasks effectively.
COLOR DISCRIMINATION: May require the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color when reviewing plans, maps, or field conditions.
INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to work effectively under moderate time constraints; manage multiple assignments; interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders; and respond constructively to compliance-related discussions and field situations.
PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including expressing ideas clearly and understanding spoken communication during meetings, construction site visits, inspections, and public presentations.
