Overview
Bates Hewett & Floyd is seeking an experienced Commercial Lines Account Manager to support and manage a book of business focused on agriculture, timber, forestry, and rural commercial operations.
This role is ideal for someone who understands the unique risks of land-based businesses—timber tracts, farming operations, logging, heavy equipment, and multi-entity ownership structures—and can bring a strategic, solutions-driven approach to client management.
This is not a transactional service role. We are looking for someone who can operate as a trusted advisor, helping clients protect and grow generational assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and retain a book of agriculture, timber, and forestry-based commercial accounts
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for key clients, many of whom are multi-generational landowners and operators
- Lead the renewal and marketing process, including:
- Property schedules (land, structures, outbuildings)
- Equipment and inland marine
- General liability and auto fleets
- Identify and advise on coverage gaps specific to rural risks, including:
- Timber value and land exposure
- Equipment breakdown and mobility
- Fire, storm, and environmental exposures
- Work closely with producers to develop long-term risk and insurance strategies
- Coordinate with carriers that specialize in ag, forestry, and rural risks
- Oversee policy accuracy, endorsements, COIs, and compliance needs
- Support onboarding of new clients and ensure a high-touch transition experience
- Act as an internal quarterback, aligning service team, carriers, and client expectations
What We’re Looking For
- 3–10+ years of commercial lines experience (agency-side preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Property & casualty coverages
- Equipment/inland marine
- Rural/ag/forestry risks (or willingness to learn quickly)
- Ability to think beyond policies and understand how clients actually operate
- Strong communication skills—comfortable working with business owners, operators, and family-held businesses
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive
- Active 2-20 license (or ability to obtain)
Preferred Experience
- Background in or exposure to:
- Agriculture, timber, or land management
- Construction, logging, or heavy equipment operations
- Experience with large property schedules and complex accounts
- Familiarity with independent agency systems (Applied Epic, AMS360, etc.)
What Makes This Role Different
- Focus on real-world, asset-heavy businesses—not just office risks
- Direct impact on protecting land, equipment, and generational wealth
- High level of client interaction and strategic input
- Opportunity to grow into a senior advisor or producer role
Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,378.88 per year
