Basic Function:
Design and develop tooling, fixtures and gauges in support of R&D, New Product Launches and Manufacturing Operations inclusive of concept, design, prototype, maintenance, and continuous improvement capable of meeting customer requirements and Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost expectations at acceptable risk, for all features.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain tooling records and design information for all tooling, inclusive of DPD, specifications and product standards.
- Utilize analytical abilities and problem solving skills in order to evaluate internal and external customer requests for product manufacturability.
- Examine technical drawings and blueprints to resolve tooling design issues.
- Prepare tooling prints, designs and bills of materials using 3D CAD software.
- Write and maintain standard works, support documents, and technical papers utilizing lessons learned approach for enhancing designs and reducing scrap.
- Participate in and/or lead the product realization process related to the product/tooling design and verification, test plans, special requirements and risks (APQP).
- Work with Project Managers to determine tool specifications and requirements.
- Consult with tool room personnel to ensure designs can be manufactured safely, accurately, efficiently, and in a cost effective manner.
- Validate supplier tool designs and provide confirmation and release to build as appropriate.
- Coordinate engineering information, drawings and tool design reviews with appropriate Project Manager and/or Manufacturing Engineer.
- Work closely with Quality to validate tooling and support efforts towards the preparation of FAI as a component of the CTL.
- Manage tool development activities beginning from order receipt through first production run.
- Work with engineers and operators to identify opportunities for improvements in new and existing tooling to improve safety and ergonomics, reduce repetitive motions, and decrease process variations. (i.e. Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing)
- Assist in department related administrative tasks.
- Maintain fluent communications with all interested parties to provide status updates on tools.
- Research new processes and materials, as required, to meet or exceed customer requirements.

Experience:
- Engineering Degree Preferred
- 0-5 years of product, process, or manufacturing engineering related experience.
- 0-5 years of 3D Modeling experience.
- Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9001 Preferred
