The City of Eudora is accepting applications for a Water Plant Operator within our Public Works Department. This entry-level position will operate and maintain the utility’s water treatment facilities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Water Plant Foreman.

Job Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)

· Performs regular analysis of samples from various steps in the water treatment process

· Adjusts treatment systems as necessary to meet water quality standards

· Inspects machinery and equipment for proper operation; performs routine maintenance activities.

· Collects laboratory samples and conducts testing as indicated by local and state ordinances.

· Cleans, maintains and operates weirs, the out-fall line, clarifiers, water well, pumps, valves, motors, engines, meters, drives, tanks, compressors, piping system and fixtures, and other plant peripherals.

· Thoroughly documents and communicates all analysis, results, and issues encountered.

· Operates SCADA equipment.

· Computes chemical dosages and adjusts chemical feed rates, flow rates, pumps and filters as required.

· Provides external system maintenance, valve exercising, hydrant flushing, & pressure testing.

· Assists with the inventory and ordering of operating supplies and chemicals; assists with the safe unloading and storage of related chemicals.

· Assists with snow and ice removal services.

· Assists in maintaining the Dog Pound during the week & weekends.

Hours

The position is a full-time, 40-hour schedule. During training (estimated to last three months), the position will follow this schedule:

Monday 6:00 am – 2:30 pm

Tuesday 6:00 am – 2:30 pm

Wednesday 12:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Thursday 12:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Friday 6:30 am – 2:30 pm.

After training has been completed, the position will move to the following schedule:

Wednesday 10:00 am – 8:30 pm

Thursday 10:00 am – 8:30 pm

Friday 10:00 am – 8:30 pm

Saturday 6:00 am – 4:30 pm

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED.

· Ability to operate standard office equipment and related hardware/software.

· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

· Ability to obtain Certified Class II Water Operator Certification within one year

Preferred Qualifications

· Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License in the state of Kansas.

· Water Operator Certification(s).

· Knowledge of the operating and maintenance requirements of a Water Treatment Plant.

· General knowledge of hydraulic, chemical, and mechanical principles pertinent to water treatment plant operations

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently standing and occasionally requires walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to wet humid conditions (non-weather), frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to the risk of electrical shock and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to vibration, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Pay

Starting at $19.36 per hour

Employees receive an additional hourly incentive as certifications are obtained.
