About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Fleet Manager / Trucking Supervisor to oversee daily trucking operations, coordinate freight movement, manage drivers, and ensure on-time deliveries. The ideal candidate will have experience with fleet maintenance, intermodal transportation, and rail container operations in the Chicago market. This individual should be highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing both transportation logistics and fleet performance.
Responsibilities
- Dispatch trucks and assign loads efficiently
- Communicate with drivers regarding routes, schedules, and operational issues
- Coordinate container pickups and deliveries from Chicago rail yards.
- Monitor fleet performance and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
- Schedule preventive maintenance and coordinate truck repairs to minimize downtime.
- Work closely with maintenance vendors to keep tractors and chassis in safe operating condition.
- Book and negotiate loads with brokers/shippers
- Track trucks using GPS and ensure compliance with FMCSA and HOS regulations.
- Handle paperwork (rate confirmations, BOLs, invoices)
- Resolve delivery delays, equipment breakdowns, and operational issues.
- Maintain accurate dispatch and fleet maintenance records.
Experience & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in logistics or business preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in trucking operations, dispatching, or fleet management.
- Experience managing truck maintenance, preventive maintenance schedules, and equipment repairs.
- Knowledge of intermodal transportation and Chicago rail container operations is highly preferred
- Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Microsoft Excel, and data entry.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Team-oriented with a proactive and problem-solving attitude.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. trucking regulations (FMCSA, HOS)
- Experience with dispatch software (DAT, Truckstop, Samsara, etc.)
- Spanish Bilingual
Work Schedule:
- Full-time; 8:00am – 5:00pm
