The Jockey Club Technology Services builds and operates commercial-grade software for the thoroughbred racing industry. Our portfolio spans real-time race-day operations, large-scale data systems, mobile applications, and public-facing web properties serving millions of users.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Architect to guide architecture decisions across multiple products and clients. You’ll design systems, guide development teams, and write code. You’ll work across greenfield modernization efforts and established platforms that run critical business operations daily.

You’ll report to the Director of Software Development and collaborate with other principal-level architects, a DevOps team, and developers ranging from junior to senior across FTE, contractor, and offshore teams.

What You’ll Do

· Lead architecture and technical design for multiple concurrent projects across different clients and business units

· Make technology decisions and own the technical direction for assigned systems

· Write production code primarily Java/Angular, with occasional work in legacy projects

· Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development teams

· Engage directly with clients to gather requirements, present solutions, and manage technical expectations

· Deliver estimates, technical proposals, and system design documentation

· Evaluate and recommend tooling, frameworks, and infrastructure approaches

· Participate in code reviews, production troubleshooting, and deployment planning

· Drive modernization of legacy systems toward current platforms and patterns

· Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure, and cloud architecture (AWS)

Required Skills & Experience

· 7+ years of professional software development experience

· Strong Java experience with Spring Boot or similar frameworks

· Strong JavaScript/TypeScript experience with Angular

· Demonstrated experience designing multi-tier, distributed systems

· Experience with relational databases (SQL Server, or MySQL) including performance tuning and data modeling

· Experience with AWS cloud services

· Experience with RESTful API design and integration patterns

· Proven ability to own technical decisions and communicate trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

· Experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD practices

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience

Nice to Have

· ColdFusion experience

· React or NextJS experience

· .NET experience

· Experience with large-scale data processing or real-time systems

· Familiarity with the horse racing or sports data industry
