Job Summary:
The Surface Mount Technology (“SMT”) Engineer will be responsible for the setup, programming, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of SMT equipment used in the assembly process. The role involves ensuring smooth production workflows, minimizing downtime, optimizing machine performance, and achieving high-quality production standards. The SMT Engineer will collaborate with production teams, quality control, and design engineers to address any issues in the manufacturing process and improve efficiency.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· This position does not currently have supervisor responsibilities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Process Development & Optimization: Developing and refining SMT processes, setting parameters, and evaluating new components and manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and product quality.
- Equipment Management: Operating, calibrating, and performing preventive maintenance on SMT equipment such as screen printers, pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and inspection systems.
- Troubleshooting: Analyzing and resolving production issues, identifying root causes of defects, and implementing corrective actions to minimize rejection rates.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working with design, production, and quality teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, providing feedback for design improvements, and supporting product transitions from development to mass production.
- Quality Control: Developing and executing Statistical Process Control (SPC) plans, monitoring production performance, and implementing corrective actions to meet quality standards and performance targets.
- Documentation: Creating and maintaining process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process control plans.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Strong work ethic and drive to succeed.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in SMT process engineering in the electronic manufacturing environment, or a related role.
- Skills: Familiarity with SMT Components, soler paster, and reflow profiling.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control, and product design principles.
Physical Requirements:
· May involve standing for extended periods, walking.
· Occasionally lifting and moving objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
· Ability to work in various environment, including manufacturing floors, warehouses, and clean rooms.
· May lift trays or push carts of assemblies from one department to another.
· May lift/push feeders/equipment from time to time.
· Stooping, bending, stretching, and reaching outward and over their head.
· This position may require extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
· Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary.
· May require occasional travel.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
