The Assistant Plant Manager – supports the overall leadership, safety, efficiency, and productivity of aluminum melting operations. This role is responsible for assisting in the planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of melting processes to ensure high-quality output, optimal furnace performance, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Working closely with the Plant Manager, the Assistant Plant Manager helps oversee daily operations, supervise teams, and drive process consistency, cost control, and throughput. The position plays a key role in troubleshooting production issues, optimizing alloy composition and melting practices, and ensuring adherence to established procedures and quality requirements.
Additionally, this role contributes to workforce development, promotes a strong safety culture, and supports strategic initiatives aimed at improving operational performance, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY:
· Conduct incident investigations for all injuries and near misses, regardless of severity.
· Follow and enforce safe work practices and procedures.
· Take immediate steps to correct unsafe or unhealthful workplace conditions or hazards within their authority and ability to do so. Report any that cannot be corrected.
· Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with co-workers, managers, and contractors.
· Direct, maintain, and enforce the safety program for the team; review safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all team members. Foster a “Safety First” culture to where zero injuries are attainable.
· Ensure or make appropriate requests for the availability of resources needed for the establishment, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the ISO’s management systems.
· Foster a spirit of team unity, cooperation, and alignment of process and people with the purpose – To delight our customers with the highest quality and best service in the industry, without exception.
· Maintain a process first approach to all operational and mechanical issues (chemistries, recovery, productivity, uptime); practice process accountability.
· Accomplish manufacturing results by establishing and communicating reasonable and responsible targets and target conditions for throughput, quality (recovery, chemistry, traceability), safety, spending, continuously comparing actual performance to established targets and target conditions; perform gap analysis on actual / target discrepancies using Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) methodology; make appropriate adjustments based on (PDCA) findings; coach, counsel, initiate, coordinate, and enforce systems, policies, and procedures.
· Maintain production teams’ staff by selecting, orienting, and training employees; develop personal growth opportunities.
· Complete monthly production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel in conjunction with supervision; establish priorities; monitor progress; create and revise schedules; resolve problems; report results of the production plan to the Plant Manager.
· Implement and drive continuous improvement through the implementation of change management and best practices, mentors’ supervision in continuous improvement methodologies.
· Maintain high level of raw material traceability through education and the enforcement of organization standards; champion production floor traceability efforts in conjunction with supervision– raw material, furnace, pit, pile, staged product identification; communicate, initiate investigations, and bring to closure any traceability non-conformance issues.
· Monitor raw material, finished goods, supplies, and spare parts inventories and address issues in cooperation with appropriate managers/champions.
· Track, analyze, and improve production and quality key performance indicators such as throughput rate, first time quality, recovery %, availability % through direct action and indirect action (mentoring and training).
· Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of team members.
· Maintain and update operating and training materials for team members.
· Ensure that all production team members are trained in the most updated version of operating procedures.
· Maintain clean and organized work environment by educating and directing supervisors on the use of 5S and Best Housekeeping Practices.
· Resolve personnel problems in conjunction with Human Resources by analyzing situations; investigate issues; identify solutions; recommend action.
· Supervise and assign work for operations employees, inspect work for completeness.
· Act as a liaison between internal stakeholders, suppliers, contractors, and regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with industry standards, environmental regulations, and health and safety requirements.
· Drive continuous improvement efforts by analyzing data, identifying areas for enhancement, and implementing best practices to optimize plant operations and promote sustainable practices.
· Work as part of the team to achieve company goals.
· Perform all other work as assigned.

Education:
Required- College degree preferably in engineering or business
Preferred- MBA
Experience:
Required- 3-5 years in a comparable position of responsibility.
Preferred- 2+ years of experience in general maintenance and 2+ years of experience in operations.
