The SCA’s Architecture and Engineering Department is responsible for development of scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions and renovation work of existing schools for New York City’s 1.1 million students. Our projects are intentionally and thoughtfully designed; positive impact design is at the forefront of all our projects. Our In-House studio is a multidisciplinary practice that is responsible for designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500+ school portfolio. Our other two studios manage external consultants from design inception to completion. Our three studios are comprised of talented architects and engineers who are driven to deliver high quality custom designed, sustainable, and resilient public schools.

We have excellent career opportunities for CIVIL/STRUCTURAL Engineers who are responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles to achieve the objectives of the Authority.

Needed Specialty: Structural Engineers/ Civil Engineers with Structural Major

Engineer - A

Responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed. Provide overall coordination for in-house design projects. Perform and/or supervises the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents. Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and various government agencies. May function as a project leader. May direct Associate Engineers/Architects and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, and/or Technical Inspectors working on several less complex design and construction projects. Perform design review of work prepared by other engineers/architects. Monitor the progress of the construction phase of the project. Conduct site observations; prepare field reports; supervise the review of contractor’s submittals; perform design review of work; may be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings.

Engineer - B

Engineer B may supervise lower-level Architects and Engineers, Technical Inspectors, Quality Assurance Specialists, Associate Architects and Associate Engineers, and Architectural/Engineering Technicians. Work on several more complex design projects such as large primary schools, small intermediate schools, special types of buildings (e.g., special education schools), full modernizations, large additions, and specialized and/or numerous CIP projects. May act as a discipline leader in a department to train and develop internal staff in the architectural discipline. May chair or participate in department seminars and workshops. Provide mentoring for professional development of lower level employees. Train new SCA employees and contingent staff, as well as outside design consultants, on SCA standards and procedures. May coordinate the work of consulting firms and/or individual consultants and contingent staff on projects and does design review of outside consultants. Perform the duties of Architect - A when necessary.

Engineer C

Engineer - C is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, and manages team members and/or contractors on projects to achieve the objectives of the Authority. Work as a project leader on multiple, complex construction projects and major design and exploration programs to plan, assign, direct, manage, and supervise the work of stakeholders such as Engineers, Architects, Quality Assurance Specialists, Technical Inspectors, Associate Engineers, Associate Architects, and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, resolving any problems that occur. Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ensures compliance to codes, standards, and that the project is completed on schedule. Perform design review of work prepared by other engineers/architects. Assist in preparing new design standards and procedures. May coordinate the work of consulting firms and/or individual consultants and contingent staff on projects. May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings. May perform duties of Engineer - B and/or Engineer - A.

Minimum Qualifications:

Baccalaureate Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university/college plus:

Level A: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer.

Level B: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and three years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or leader

Level C: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and six years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; three years must be as a project engineer; project, team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility.

Current New York State Professional Engineer license must be maintained for the duration of employment for all levels.

Salary dependent upon experience:

Engineer A: $83,314 - $129,892

Engineer B: $97,304 - $151,643

Engineer C: $102,653 - $166,781
