Your Opportunity

As a Mechanical Designer, you will work with guidance and direction on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer or Project Manager. Work consists of advanced mechanical design for the built environment including but not limited to HVAC, piping and plumbing, and the use of digital practice technology such as Revit as well as mechanical engineering specific computer applications. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Conducts basic interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials.
• Performs Revit and/or AutoCAD design for the mechanical and plumbing disciplines.
• Under the direction and mentorship of a senior engineer/designer, performs the following:
• Works with architectural, interior, and other engineering disciplines in the coordination of the project.
• Performs field work and provides field observation reports.
• Performs basic calculations to analyze and design individual building mechanical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
• Performs other miscellaneous engineering tasks as required for the completion of projects.
• Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.

Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Basic understanding of Revit and the use of it as a drafting/design tool.
• Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
• Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
• Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
• Ability to take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from Senior Engineers
• Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; Prefer experience with Newforma, Trane Trace & IES.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or Two-year Technical or Associates Degree in Computer Aided Drafting/Construction Technology.

A minimum of 5 years' experience in mechanical drafting.

Industry-specific co-op/Internship experience preferred.

EIT / FE certification preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
