1.0 Job Description Summary
1.1 This position is responsible for development, operation and maintenance of the Plas-Tech Tooling manufacturing systems. They will develop and maintain inspection reports, compile relevant system data, reduce productions costs; be involved with Continuous Improvement (CI), Safety Programs, On-Time Delivery (OTD) Initiatives and Part Quality. The ME will review the manufacturing specifications and/or customer provided drawings and work with the Production Manager and production staff to develop efficient set up and manufacturing techniques. The ME will utilize Mastercam and Solid Works to assist tooling design and function. They will assist Management with parts quoting and cost containment measures.
2.0 Reporting Relationships
2.1 The ME reports to senior management of Plas-Tech Tooling, Inc.
2.2 The ME is not a supervisory position as it has no direct reports, but they do function in a supervisory role as it relates to the Plas-Tech Tooling Manufacturing Systems/Techniques and the Quality Management System (QMS). They may be required to provide in-services/training to other employees.
3.0 Job Requirements:
3.1 Education
3.1.1 Required: Associate Degree in Business or experience in a related field.
3.1.2 Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or 4 years relevant experience; training in CI or related area such as Lean Six Sigma.
3.2 Experience
3.2.1 Required: Two years’ Lean manufacturing experience.
3.2.2 Preferred: Three years’ experience in manufacturing with additional CI/Lean responsibilities and/or experience with ISO 9001and Project Management Experience. Additional machining and tool design experience preferred as well.
3.3 Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
3.3.1 Working knowledge of manufacturing, production, mechanical and engineering concepts and applications.
3.3.2 Must possess ability to effectively communicate through verbal and written means with Tool Makers, Production Machinists and external customers.
3.3.3 Requires investigative and analytical skills, ability to make judgment calls and the ability to troubleshoot problems that may arise in the production process.
3.3.4 Experience working with Microsoft Office.
3.4 Physical Requirements
3.4.1 Body Positions: Physical requirements include sitting (60%), standing (30%) and walking (10%). The sitting includes working at a computer terminal, reviewing drawings, and performing/reviewing calculations. The standing includes but is not limited to training and interacting with individuals throughout the organization. Walking is necessary to move from one location to another throughout the building.
3.4.2 Body Movements: Must be able to walk without assistance to safely move throughout the work environment. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry over 50 pounds and utilize judgment for lifting items over 50 pounds as mechanical lifts are available for use. Hand and finger dexterity must be sufficient to operate computer keyboards and manipulate small parts and tools.
3.4.3 Body Senses: Must possess sense of sight (with no color blindness) to interpret drawings and diagrams on a computer screen. Eyesight must be sufficient for moving from a computer screen to a drawing, diagrams and reading text as necessary to write programs used by CNC machines. Must be able to hear for safety in the machine shop.
3.5 Mental Requirements
3.5.1 Mathematical: Must possess skills sufficient to perform calculations and recognize mistakes on diagrams.
3.5.2 Language: Must be able to read, write and speak English sufficiently to interpret diagrams, computer programs and communicate directly with machine operators and customers.
3.5.3 Mechanical: Must possess a working knowledge of manufacturing, production principles, and engineering concepts/applications.
3.5.4 Spatial Awareness: Requires the ability to read/understand blueprints, diagrams and other documents used in the manufacture of products at Plas-Tech Tooling, Inc. They must be able to recognize mistakes in designs and tooling that may lead to production errors and make necessary changes to reduce excessive utilization of labor, materials and/or delays in production.
4.0 Working Conditions
4.1 The work will be performed primarily indoors in a smoke-free office environment. The employee will be required to move between the office and production area throughout the day. They will be exposed to potential hazards in the form of dust/other particles in the air, noise, moving equipment, and machines with moving parts.
4.2 The normal work day will consist of hours performed between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM; Monday through Thursday and four (4) hours on Friday. You will be expected to have work completed by twelve (12) pm (noon) on Friday unless approved in advance by your supervisor or Senior Management. This is a salaried position requiring a minimum of 45 hours worked per week. There will be two (2) paid breaks of 10 minutes and one (1) unpaid lunch break up to sixty (60) minutes. Shifts greater than nine (9) hours may be required to complete projects to meet the customer deadlines. Changes in the schedule must be approved by senior management.
5.0 Essential Functions
5.1 Assist with the implementation of the Plas-Tech Tooling Quality Management System and maintenance of organizational compliance with ISO 9001.
5.2 Be actively involved with project status review and other organizational meetings.
5.3 Assist with providing Quality Assurance oversight for manufacturing procedures.
5.4 Serve as customer liaison as required by day-to-day interaction with customers.
5.5 Draft Parts and/or tooling.
5.6 Support overall organizational production and productivity goals.
6.0 Duties and Tasks
6.1 Organize/facilitate project status meetings.
6.2 Create engineering drawings.
6.3 Provide input to the Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) process.
6.4 Identify, plan and implement CI projects.
6.5 Serve as a backup for the Quality Assurance process.
6.6 Performs Project Management duties.
6.7 Assist with part quoting and set up.
6.8 Review cost and work on cost containment/improvement.
6.9 Assist with programming, tool selection and part set up related issues.
6.10 Performs any reasonable duties as assigned by senior management.
7.0 Measures of Performance
7.1 Effectively communicates with management team regarding project status needs/outcomes.
7.2 Implements annual cost saving measures equaling two times annual salary.
7.3 Provides training staff training and education on relevant job-related processes.
7.4 Provided feedback to staff to regarding efforts to implement new procedures/processes which will enhance performance.
7.5 Work with Senior Management to create new revenue streams and/or implement cost saving measures.
7.6 Demonstrates ability to multi-task; working between multiple projects and seeing them through to completion.
7.7 Provides back up coverage for overlapping areas as needed.
