Smart Electric, Heating & Air is seeking an experienced Generator Service & Maintenance Technician to become the go-to expert for residential standby generator maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and customer care.
We're looking for a technician who takes ownership, solves problems independently, communicates clearly, and takes pride in delivering exceptional service. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex electrical and mechanical systems, managing their own workload, and building long-term relationships with customers. There will be on the job training provided as well as training through the Generac University classes online, and in-person.

What You'll Do:
Generator Diagnostics & Repair
- Diagnose and repair residential standby generators, including Generac and other major brands.
- Troubleshoot electrical, fuel, mechanical, and control system issues.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer documentation.
- Coordinate directly with manufacturers and technical support when needed.
- Manage repairs from diagnosis through completion.
Preventative Maintenance
- Perform annual and semi-annual generator maintenance services.
- Complete inspections, load tests, battery testing, fluid checks, and system performance evaluations.
- Clean equipment and leave every jobsite better than you found it.
- Identify concerns before they become failures and educate customers on recommended solutions.
Maintenance Agreement Growth
- Educate homeowners on the value of preventative maintenance.
- Promote and grow generator maintenance agreements.
- Build trust through excellent service and clear communication.
Service Call Ownership
- Take responsibility for the entire customer experience from start to finish.
- Order, track, and stage required parts.
- Coordinate warranty claims and manufacturer support.
- Maintain repair timelines and proactively communicate updates.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete detailed service notes in Jobber.
- Document diagnostics, repairs, recommendations, parts ordered, and next steps.
- Upload clear photos from every service visit.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, office staff, and teammates.
Inventory & Vehicle Management
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional service vehicle.
- Keep maintenance kits, commonly used repair parts, and tools stocked and ready.
- Minimize repeat trips through preparation and planning.
Generator Installation Support
- Assist installation teams when needed.
- Install gas piping and related generator components as workload requires.
- Support startup, commissioning, and final testing of new systems.
Fleet Maintenance Support
- Perform basic maintenance and repairs on company vehicles when assigned.
- Coordinate parts ordering and scheduled service needs.
- Help maintain a safe and reliable fleet.

Qualifications
- Experience servicing and troubleshooting residential standby generators.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and control schematics.
- Experience with Generac generators preferred.
- Gas piping experience is a plus.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently while remaining a team player.
