Job Overview
MaTex Hose is seeking a dependable and hands-on 3rd Shift Extrusion Operator / Warehouse Supervisor. This position will operate and monitor extrusion equipment used in the production of lay-flat hose while also overseeing warehouse and production activities during third shift.
The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, leadership skills, and the ability to work independently. This person will be responsible for keeping production running efficiently, directing third-shift employees, maintaining a safe work environment, and communicating any production, quality, staffing, material, or equipment concerns to management.
Primary ResponsibilitiesExtrusion Machine Operation
- Set up, operate, and monitor extrusion equipment used in hose production.
- Adjust temperature, pressure, line speed, and other machine settings to maintain proper material flow and hose dimensions.
- Continuously monitor the extrusion process and make real-time adjustments as needed.
- Identify and correct process issues to reduce defects, waste, and downtime.
- Safely load resins, additives, pigments, and other materials into the extrusion equipment.
- Perform basic machine cleaning, lubrication, and tooling or die changes.
- Report mechanical or operational problems to Maintenance promptly.
Quality and Production
- Inspect hose for thickness, diameter, surface finish, and overall quality.
- Complete required in-process quality checks and production documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of production output, downtime, scrap, and quality concerns.
- Ensure production schedules and priorities are followed.
- Assist with packing, labeling, and staging finished hose for downstream operations.
- Communicate production delays, material shortages, and equipment issues to management.
Third-Shift Warehouse Supervision
- Oversee warehouse and production activities during third shift.
- Assign work and provide direction to third-shift employees based on production priorities.
- Monitor workflow to ensure materials and finished products are handled, labeled, and staged correctly.
- Ensure employees follow work instructions, quality requirements, safety procedures, and company policies.
- Help resolve operational issues and escalate serious concerns to management.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse and production area.
- Communicate shift progress, unfinished work, downtime, staffing concerns, and other important information during shift handoff.
- Support employee training, cross-training, accountability, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Respond appropriately to safety, quality, equipment, or personnel concerns that occur during the shift.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous manufacturing or machine-operation experience required.
- Extrusion, plastics, or hose-manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Previous lead or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to lead employees and make sound decisions with limited supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset.
- Ability to read and follow production instructions, specifications, and safety procedures.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and comfortable working overnight.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills for production records and shift communication.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to heat, noise, and moving machinery.
- Warehouse and production temperatures may be variable and uncontrolled.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and regularly lift, pull, bend, and handle raw materials and finished hose products.
- Manual dexterity is required to operate machine controls, tools, and inspection equipment.
- Must be able to maintain focus throughout long production runs.
- Must follow all PPE, lockout/tagout, and company safety requirements.
- Overtime or weekend work may be required based on production needs.
Experience
- One to three years of manufacturing or machine-operation experience preferred.
- Previous extrusion or plastics-manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Previous warehouse, team-lead, or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- On-the-job training will be provided for MaTex Hose equipment and processes.
