Hydraulics/Pneumatics Engineer

Position Summary

The Hydraulics/Pneumatics Engineer is responsible for the design, specification, implementation, testing, and optimization of hydraulic and pneumatic systems for industrial equipment and machinery. This role works closely with mechanical engineering and manufacturing teams to develop reliable, cost-effective fluid power solutions that meet performance, safety, and operational requirements. The position also supports motion control integration and occasional on-site customer support activities including system commissioning, tuning, and operator training.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with mechanical engineers to develop, specify, and implement hydraulic and pneumatic components, circuits, and power units for equipment applications.
• Design and optimize hydraulic and pneumatic systems to maximize efficiency, reliability, and overall equipment performance while maintaining project budget requirements.
• Source, evaluate, and specify hydraulic and pneumatic components including pumps, valves, cylinders, manifolds, filters, fittings, and control devices.
• Generate detailed hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, layouts, and documentation for shop assembly, troubleshooting, and equipment manuals.
• Develop bills of materials (BOMs), component specifications, and technical documentation to support manufacturing and procurement activities.
• Set up, test, troubleshoot, and tune hydraulic and pneumatic systems to ensure proper functionality and compliance with performance standards.
• Perform mechanical function testing and equipment calibration to verify operational performance and system integration.
• Support the integration and troubleshooting of motion control systems and positioning applications related to hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
• Support manufacturing, assembly, and field service teams with technical expertise related to fluid power systems.
• Occasionally travel to customer sites to support equipment commissioning, system tuning, startup activities, troubleshooting, and customer training on equipment operation and maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, engineering practices, and quality requirements.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on system performance, reliability, and cost reduction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Power Engineering, or related engineering discipline preferred.
• Experience designing and troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems in an industrial or equipment manufacturing environment.
• Experience with motion control systems and integration in industrial equipment applications preferred.
• Proficiency with hydraulic and pneumatic schematic software and CAD tools.
• Strong understanding of fluid power principles, system controls, component selection, and motion control fundamentals.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and assembly documentation.
• Experience with system testing, diagnostics, and performance tuning.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel occasionally to customer facilities for commissioning, troubleshooting, and training support.
• Familiarity with industry standards and safety practices related to hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with PLC-controlled hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
• Knowledge of electro-hydraulic and electro-pneumatic controls.
• Hands-on experience with industrial equipment commissioning and startup.
• Familiarity with automated motion control applications.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
