Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Geologist to manage and oversee a helicopter-supported mineral exploration drilling program in a remote area of Alaska. This is a field-based position requiring strong technical skills, leadership ability, and comfort working in challenging environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mineral exploration drilling operations and the ability to work independently in isolated conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and supervise all aspects of the drill program including drilling contractors, sampling protocols, and quality control
• Manage day-to-day drilling operations and serve as primary on-site technical authority
• Log core and chip samples, ensuring accurate geological documentation and sample handling
• Coordinate with drilling contractors, support staff, and corporate management
• Ensure all operations comply with safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and company standards
• Prepare daily reports, geological summaries, and technical documentation
• Make real-time decisions regarding drilling targets, depths, and program modifications
• Manage logistics in remote field conditions including equipment, supplies, and personnel coordination
• Conduct geological interpretation and provide technical recommendations based on drilling results

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mineral exploration geology
• Demonstrated experience managing exploration drill programs, preferably in remote locations
• Strong core logging skills with knowledge of various rock types and mineralization styles
• Proficient in Leapfrog software and databases
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Valid driver's license; ability to operate ATVs or other field vehicles preferred
• Current wilderness first aid certification or willingness to obtain
• Physically fit and able to work in demanding field conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geology
• Previous experience working in Alaska or similar Arctic/sub-Arctic environments
• Knowledge of Alaska-specific permitting and environmental regulations
• P.Geo or professional geologist certification

Working Conditions

• Remote field location with helicopter access
• Camp-based accommodations
• Rotation schedule to be determined based on project needs and candidate availability
• Work schedule may include long days and weekends depending on operational needs
• Exposure to wildlife, extreme weather, and challenging terrain
• Limited communication access

Compensation & Benefits

• Daily rate: $40.00-$60.00 per hour, plus OT (based on experience and qualifications)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to hike over rough terrain carrying equipment (up to 40 lbs)

• Manual dexterity for handling samples and operating equipment
