Job Summary: Performs equipment maintenance and repairs on complex therapeutic/diagnostic/ patient care equipment. Technician will also complete pre-purchase evaluation, inventory control, in-service of clinical equipment, and thorough documentation of services as well as participate in electrical and fire safety. They are to perform these tasks in a manner which is consistent with the values and mission of Tanana Chiefs Conference, Health Services.

Representative Duties: Under the general supervision of the Biomedical Equipment Support Director job incumbent will:

1. Repair and maintain a complete range of medical, x-ray, and dental equipment.

2. Conduct instruction on clinical equipment operation and safety procedures for staff as requested.

3. Ensure all work is completed within established safety standards.

4. Perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of performance of repairs and scheduled services. This includes but is not limited to filling out parts requests, work requests, travel reports, filing completed work requests, maintain a manufacturers literature file parts inventory and shop stock inventory.

5. Document repair histories and routine inspections.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Two or four year Degree from an accredited college, or military Biomedical Equipment maintenance Technician program, or 5 years of experience in the Biomedical Equipment Maintenance field.

2. Experience in medical, dental and x-ray equipment repairs and maintenance preferred.

3. Clinical experience in a cross cultural setting is preferred.

4. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

5. A+ and Network+ certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Must have the skill to analyze, diagnose, and trouble-shoot most of the equipment on the inventory.

2. Must understand the principles of medical instrumentation and the theory and practice of how biomedical instruments can be used to interface safely with human systems to measure parameters, diagnose, monitor or affect therapy within the human body.

3. Must have the knowledge and vocabulary to understand and communicate in proper medical terminology to health care professionals in relation to medical instrumentation problems.

4. Must be able to demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of human physiology.

5. Must be able demonstrate knowledge of the healthcare facility safety and environmental health and awareness of hazardous waste handling, disease isolation and cross-contamination.

6. Must have ability to train others and make in-service presentations for equipment operators, and orient clinical staff to specific biomedical instruments.

Supervision: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical demands: Work assignments may involve standing, stooping, bending, and frequently working in cramped and awkward positions for prolonged periods. Incumbent must be able to lift and carry at least fifty pounds, occasionally over fifty pounds with assistance. Incumbent will occasionally work long hours. Must travel to remote clinics in small planes or driving and often stay overnight.

Work Environment: Work will be performed in village clinics, dental clinic, and the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center, and the Peter John Building. There may be common exposure to contagious diseases. Occasionally exposed to blood, body tissue, and other potentially infection materials.
