Work Location: Remote (East Coast only)
A geospatial intelligence company is building the next generation of AI systems that extract meaningful answers from high-resolution aerial imagery, and they need a Staff AI Engineer who can bridge cutting-edge research and production reality. You'll own the architecture and delivery of agentic AI systems that sit at the intersection of large language models, retrieval pipelines, and computer vision workflows. No data infrastructure headaches. No ticket-checking. Just hard, important engineering.
One role, one mission. The company's AI team is producing frontier science on aerial imagery - representation learning, reinforcement learning, and decision systems - and they need an engineer who can take that science and make it ship. You'll design and build the orchestration layers, agentic frameworks, and production ML infrastructure that turn research-stage models into reliable, scalable products. That means tool-use pipelines, retrieval-augmented generation, memory and planning architectures, verification loops, and the embedding and vector search systems that underpin next-generation geospatial products. You'll work closely with data scientists and the India-based engineering team on daily handover, and you'll be expected to own decisions, not wait for them.
You'll own your problems end to end - designing systems, evaluating their behaviour, identifying failure modes, and translating solutions into real product impact. You'll provide technical leadership to distributed team members and drive engineering standards across the team.
The ideal candidate holds a PhD or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field, with strong foundations in production ML systems and software engineering. You have shipped agentic or LLM-based systems into production and understand where they break. Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, and embedding pipelines is important. Familiarity with computer vision or geospatial data is a genuine advantage. Above all, you build things that work - you don't prototype and hand off.
The role is fully remote, with the US East Coast preferred. An early start is required - 7:00 AM ET, at least 3-4 days a week - to sync cross-functionally with the India team, though there's flexibility around personal or the usual morning commitments after the handover. You must hold a green card or existing US work authorisation, as no sponsorship is available.
Compensation is $200,000 - $220,000 base, plus a 10% annual bonus pro-rated on company performance.
The benefits package includes:
The hiring firm's interview process runs from initial resume screening to a video interview, a 30-45-minute seminar where you present your own work, some panel interviews, and a final with the hiring lead - typically 3-4 weeks end to end.
