SUMMARY: This person will measure and inspect both raw materials and finished product to verify conformance to the requirements. He or she will perform internal audits to support the quality management system. He or she will also assist the quality team and manufacturing team in communication and decision making to ensure that quality parts are being produced.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned.
Inspection
· Perform first piece and last shot inspection of parts at the start and end of each production run to verify quality requirements are met.
· Collect samples of parts as required and follow inspection instructions as listed on the inspection plan.
· Examine, measure, and/or test parts to verify that all customer requirements are being met such as: appearance, fit, function, size, strength, and durability.
· Use a variety of gauges or equipment to verify specified dimensions or physical characteristics of parts along with the documentation and analysis of those results.
· Verify that the appropriate raw materials are being used.
· Perform incoming inspection of purchased materials.
Auditing
· Verification that inspector packers are filling out records legibly and correctly.
· Perform food safety swab testing.
· Perform layered process audits.
Hold Product
· Reject and isolate parts that are suspect or don’t meet internal or external requirements.
· Create MRB’s and issue hold tags as applicable per the procedures.
· Recall parts from the warehouse if necessary and place on hold.
Communication and Records
· Communicate inspection results and concerns with the shift supervisor, quality team, and other manufacturing personnel as applicable.
· Provide incoming inspectors with a rundown of problems, activities, and other items of importance from the previous shift.
· Maintain sample room with first and last shots from production runs.
· Bag and tag samples of possible defects for further review.
· Record quality inspection results in the ERP system IQMS.
Computer Skills
· Demonstrate proficiency with computers, specifically MS Office computer programs.
· IQMS or other enterprise resource planning software a plus.
Food Safety Management
· All employees are required to understand and follow all Quality Food Safety Management System (QFSMS) policies and procedures. In addition, employees are responsible for reporting problems with the QFSMS to a supervisor, manager, or the food safety & regulatory specialist.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and follow instructions. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent. Two to four years of inspection experience preferred. Inspection experience with plastics is a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, communicate short correspondence, and understand memos. Ability to write simple information on production sheets legibly.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic understanding of algebra required (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, etc.)
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to collect data and identify problems. Ability to make sound decisions and judgment calls based on limited information.
OTHER SKILLS: Ability to use simple quality tools such as but not limited to: micrometer, caliper, height gage, and pin gauges. Have prior use or the ability to be trained on more sophisticated equipment such as: spectrophotometer, optical comparator, force tester, and CMM. Have the ability to learn computer programs and understand part prints. The ability to focus on details and consistency is essential to this position. Professional demeanor and the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision are required. This individual needs to lead by example and develop a rapport with operators, production personnel, supervisors, and managers to provide good communication.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk; and hear. The employee is required to stand frequently, bend, and reach with hands and arms.
The employee may occasionally lift and carry up to 35 pounds from pallet to above shoulder height. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. This department is climate controlled. The noise level in the work environment is loud.
The following personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be worn at all times when performing in this role while on the manufacturing floor: safety glasses and hearing protection. Food Safety protective equipment is required at all time while on the manufacturing floor: including hair nets, gloves and, if applicable, beard nets.
