Your Opportunity
As the Lead Biomedical Equipment Technician, you will serve as the technical leader for the Clinical Engineering program at a regional hospital in Odessa, Texas.
You will work alongside hospital leadership and HERO management to help operate, improve, and grow the biomedical engineering program while remaining actively engaged in the day-to-day technical work that keeps patient care moving.
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to program management, customer relationships, budgeting, compliance, and operational leadership while continuing to build your technical expertise.
For the right individual, this position can serve as one of the fastest paths from technician to Clinical Engineering leadership.
What You'll Do
Technical Leadership & Service Excellence
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and troubleshooting on a wide range of medical equipment.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Biomedical Equipment Technicians.
- Assist with prioritization and coordination of service activities and work assignments.
- Support equipment uptime initiatives and rapid response for mission-critical equipment failures.
- Coordinate vendor support and escalation when specialized service is required.
- Maintain accurate service documentation and work order completion within the CMMS.
- Participate in after-hours and on-call support as required.
Program Support & Operations
- Assist in maintaining regulatory compliance and survey readiness.
- Support preventative maintenance completion goals and departmental KPIs.
- Help manage equipment inventories, asset visibility, and documentation accuracy.
- Participate in equipment evaluations, incoming inspections, and capital planning efforts.
- Assist with implementation of process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership on equipment replacement and lifecycle planning initiatives.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, and customer service.
- Mentor junior technicians and assist with onboarding and technical development.
- Help create a culture of teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Support competency development and knowledge sharing across the team.
- Serve as a resource and escalation point for technical and operational challenges.
Customer Relationships
- Build trusted relationships with nursing, surgery, imaging, facilities, IT, supply chain, and hospital leadership.
- Communicate proactively during equipment downtime events and service escalations.
- Participate in Environment of Care rounds, meetings, and hospital initiatives.
- Represent HERO with professionalism and a customer-first mindset at all times.
What Makes You a Great Fit
Required Qualifications
- Five or more years of biomedical equipment experience in a healthcare environment.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing a wide variety of medical equipment.
- Demonstrated leadership ability through mentoring, project leadership, or supervisory responsibilities.
- Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, Engineering Technology, or equivalent military training and experience.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
- Experience with CMMS platforms such as TruAsset, TMS, AIMS, or similar systems.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience supporting critical life-support equipment, including anesthesia machines, ventilators, infant incubators, and other high-acuity patient care devices.
- Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and coordinate service activities for mission-critical equipment in a hospital environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CBET Certification.
- Previous Lead BMET or supervisory experience.
- Experience supporting hospital Clinical Engineering programs.
- Experience with networking, cybersecurity, imaging systems, or advanced medical technologies.
- OEM training, factory certification, or advanced service experience on life-support equipment such as anesthesia machines, ventilators, infant incubators, and related critical care technologies.
- Manufacturer training or certification from organizations such as GE HealthCare, Dräger, Mindray, Philips Healthcare, Getinge, or similar OEMs is highly desirable.
- Interest in developing management and program leadership skills.
