The HVAC Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading HVAC systems and equipment. This role identifies repair and replacement needs, performs installations, and ensures systems operate efficiently and safely. The technician also assists HVAC Technician I personnel and other skilled trades as needed, while ensuring the necessary tools, equipment, and materials are available at each job site.

Pay

• $24.35 - $30.57 per hour (based on relevant work experience)

Job Duties

• Clean and maintain heating and air conditioning equipment, including coils, condensate pans, drain lines, cooling towers, boilers, and related components to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and other skilled trades to complete work orders and projects in a timely and efficient manner.
• Diagnose complex HVAC system malfunctions and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
• Fabricate specialty parts and components when replacement parts are unavailable or custom modifications are required.
• Communicate work order status, repair procedures, and project updates to management and building personnel.
• Install, test, and commission new or upgraded HVAC equipment and systems.
• Monitor the performance and condition of HVAC equipment, including heating units, ventilation systems, exhaust fans, and related components, identifying maintenance and repair needs.
• Oversee contracted HVAC work to ensure compliance with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency maintenance requests during and after normal working hours.
• Perform preventive and routine maintenance on commercial kitchen refrigeration and cooling equipment, including ice machines, refrigerators, and freezers.
• Complete advanced repairs to HVAC systems and components to maintain reliable, efficient operation.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including work orders, repair records, maintenance logs, and equipment reports.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and hands-on training to HVAC Technician I employees, supporting advanced troubleshooting and skill development.
• Recommend, develop, and implement preventive maintenance strategies to maximize equipment reliability and extend system life.
• Repair and replace HVAC components, including pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coil units, piping, and related equipment.
• Order, purchase, and maintain inventory of equipment, tools, parts, and supplies necessary to support maintenance and repair activities.
• Transport tools, equipment, and materials to and from job sites as needed.
• Utilize advanced building automation and computerized control systems to monitor, troubleshoot, program, and optimize HVAC equipment, including temperature settings, scheduling, and system diagnostics, ensuring safe, efficient, and comfortable building operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing commercial HVAC installation, repair, and preventive maintenance.
• Advanced Controls Certification or experience with HVAC building automation and operating systems preferred, but not required.
• Valid Class E driver's license required, or the ability to obtain one within an established timeframe.
• Universal EPA Refrigerant Certification preferred.
• Must successfully pass a Criminal Justice fingerprint/background check and an essential skills (Fit) assessment.
