Job Overview
The Prep Cook supports the kitchen team by preparing ingredients and components needed for daily meal service for retreatants, staff, and guests. This role focuses washing, chopping, portioning, and basic cooking tasks — to ensure the kitchen runs smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Wash, peel, cut, and portion vegetables, fruits, and proteins according to instructions
• Prepare basic items such as salads, dressings, sauces, and stocks under the direction of the cook or kitchen supervisor
• Label, date, and properly store prepped ingredients following food safety guidelines
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work station throughout the shift
• Assist with receiving and storing deliveries, checking quality and quantity against orders
• Operate kitchen equipment safely (slicers, mixers, knives, ovens)
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and Texas Food Establishment Rules guidelines
• Assist line cooks during busy meal periods as needed
• Perform basic cleaning duties, including dishwashing and end-of-shift kitchen cleanup.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in a commercial, institutional, or high-volume kitchen required
• Familiarity with basic food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently when needed
• Food Handler certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire)
• Dependable, punctual, and collaborative team member
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and some holidays.
