Position Summary: The Experienced Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing and repairing diesel equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and maintaining all equipment in top operating conditions and according to DOT compliance and regulations.
Position Responsibilities:
· Diagnose and repair all tractor/trailer mechanical problems, including but not limited to: brake work including seals and drums, lighting, suspension systems, electrical/electronic systems, diesel fuel systems, engine repair, oil changes, tire repair and replacement, body work, and hydraulics.
· Perform preventative maintenance on equipment including but not limited to tractors, trailers, etc.
· Perform general welding duties as needed.
· Perform all major trailer repairs.
· Complete work orders when maintenance has been completed.
· Provide guidance to Shop Supervisor on needs in maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
· Keep maintenance shop clean at all times.
· Put away unused equipment, tools, etc. in their appropriate location.
· Develop new approaches, recommend, and implement measures to improve work order process flow, equipment performance, and follow-through from inception of the work order through completion and billing to continually improve the efficiency of the shop.
· Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Essential Skills & Experience:
· Two-year associate degree in Diesel Mechanic/Technician program or experience showing knowledge of principles/practices of maintenance operations normally obtained through formal training and education.
· Welding experience.
· High energy level needed to follow through on working assignments.
· Ability to act independently.
· Strong analytical/problem solving skills including basic math calculations, formulas, etc.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to read work orders and communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the company.
· Commitment to company values.
· Proficient in the use of a personal computer including Microsoft Office software.
Non-essential Skills and Experience:
· Previous work experience in a shop environment.
· Experience working with DOT rules and regulations.
· Experience and working knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and schedules for heavy equipment.
· Ability to speak Spanish.
· Familiarity working on and repairing/performing maintenance on a variety of equipment, including but not limited to: tractor/trailers, drag hose equipment, injectors, sweeps, gators, front end loaders, fork lifts, skid loaders, balzers, power units, shredders, bailers, conveyor belts, side spreader truck, plastics’ chipper, power washers, waste equipment, i.e. blowers, mixers, centrifuges, DAF (takes solids out of waste), scales and Harvestors.
Physical Demands And Environment: In order to perform the essential functions of this position, the employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, squat, lay on the ground, crouch, climb steps, and use hands to operate power tools and equipment, including a personal computer. Employee will be exposed to weather’s elements, including heat and cold, snow, rain, sleet, etc. Lifting from floor to overhead objects weighing up to 50 lbs. frequently and 75 lb. infrequently. Employee must be able to read printed material of varying font sizes including correspondence, blue prints, specifications, and personal computer screen. Employee must be able to communicate with employees and vendors as needed in-person, via telephone and/or e-mail. Employee will be exposed to and come in contact with unpleasant odors, grease, dirt and grime, wet floors and noise when working and walking through shop areas. Employee will also be working around moving equipment and must be aware of surroundings at all time. Employee will be exposed to equipment as noted above, such as semi-trailers, tractors, and recycling equipment. Exposure to road hazards and traffic when moving equipment/machinery, vehicles, etc. between buildings, within buildings and around the premises as well as commuting between the shop, office location, and farming operations.

1st Shift 630am - 2pm
Monday through Friday
Overtime as Needed

Base Pay: $33.00 - $36.00 per hour
