Scope of Work for Copy Editor Responsibilities: Use US English with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling across all instructional content. Ensure language is appropriate for the target audience (Grades 6–12), maintaining clarity, readability, and an age-appropriate tone for middle and high school learners Reword content where necessary while preserving meaning and instructional intent. Use simple and consistent sentence structure suitable for early adolescent learners. Maintain consistent formatting for headings, bullet points, lists, and instructions to support readability and comprehension. Avoid complex vocabulary unless it is defined or part of the required subject terminology. Avoid gendered language such as “he or she”; use singular “they” in accordance with inclusive writing standards. Ensure content uses inclusive, respectful, and unbiased language appropriate for middle school learners. Remove or refine repetitive, unnatural, or overly formal AI-generated phrasing where identified. Ensure terminology is consistent and accurate across modules, lessons, and activities. Review alt text, images, and accessibility descriptions to ensure clarity and usability for all learners. Identify and correct spelling, grammar, and typographical errors throughout all instructional materials. Flag unclear, confusing, or overly complex sentences and recommend simplified alternatives. Provide clear comments or suggestions for any required revisions or clarifications.
