Silverback Excavation is seeking a detail oriented and results driven Heavy Civil Estimator to support the successful delivery of earthwork, underground utilities, and site development projects.

This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, developing bid strategies, and working closely with project managers, field teams, clients, and subcontractors.

We are looking for someone who understands production and wants to be part of a team that is growing. Someone who can build complete and defendable estimates to clients, and can hand off a clean job that sets operations up for success.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the items outlined below. The Estimator is expected to take full responsibility for bid accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness.

Estimating and Takeoffs

• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, and site development scopes
• Utilize AGTEK for earthwork modeling, site balancing, and haul analysis
• Review plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to fully understand project scope
• Develop accurate production rates for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors

Bid Development

• Build complete estimates using B2W
• Develop detailed cost analyses and competitive project proposals
• Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier pricing
• Incorporate logistics, phasing, and schedule impacts into pricing
• Identify risks, scope gaps, and constructability issues prior to bid submission

Client Interaction and Bid Defense

• Meet with clients, general contractors, and owners to review and defend estimates
• Clearly communicate assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, and pricing strategy
• Support negotiations with subcontractors and suppliers to align with project budgets
• Represent Silverback professionally during preconstruction and bid review

Project Handoff and Support

• Lead turnover meetings with Project Managers and field teams
• Provide clean and complete handoff including budgets, cost codes, and scope summaries
• Ensure alignment between estimate, schedule, and field execution
• Support PMs during project startup and assist with change order pricing as needed

Cost Control and Continuous Improvement

• Analyze plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify risks and cost impacts
• Work with operations to compare estimated versus actual costs
• Support cost tracking and forecasting efforts using Vista Viewpoint
• Continuously refine production rates and estimating processes

Systems and Software

• B2W for estimating and bid management
• Vista Viewpoint for cost tracking and historical data
• Bluebeam for plan review and quantity takeoffs
• AGTEK for earthwork modeling and quantities

Qualifications

• 5+ years of heavy civil estimating experience
• Strong background in earthwork, underground utilities, and site development
• Proven ability to perform detailed takeoffs and build complete estimates
• Experience meeting with clients and defending bid numbers
• Proficiency in B2W, Vista Viewpoint, Bluebeam, and AGTEK
• Strong understanding of:
• Production rates and equipment spreads
• Earthwork quantities and site balancing
• Utility installation methods and costs

Pay: $90,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
