Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Dental Hygienist Part-Time (32 hours T-F 8:30A to 5:00P) to join our dental team. This position is based in a small Tribal health clinic with an American Indian and Alaskan Native patient population. The role emphasizes prevention, patient education, and continuity of care rather than high-volume or production-driven scheduling. Under the supervision of the Clinical Director of Dental Operations, the Dental Hygienist provides preventive, educational, and therapeutic dental hygiene services in a patient-centered, community-focused setting. Responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions.
• Evaluate oral health conditions and develop dental hygiene treatment plans.
• Perform oral prophylaxis, periodontal therapy, deep scaling, root planing, and subgingival curettage.
• Administer local anesthesia; apply fluoride and sealants.
• Take, develop, and interpret intraoral and extraoral radiographs and/or assist with chairside procedures such as applying topical anesthetics.
• Provide patient education, oral hygiene instruction, and preventive care strategies.
• Maintain accurate and detailed charting, coding, and electronic dental records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinic protocols.
• Support general dentistry procedures by preparing treatment areas, assisting dentist during examinations and treatments, and equipment maintenance.
• Follow strict infection control protocols using aseptic techniques, sterilization, and safety protocols to ensure patient safety.
• Utilize dental software systems like MIPACS or Dentrix for documentation review, scheduling, and record management.
• Monitor patient comfort throughout procedures, ensuring a positive experience for pediatric dentistry patients when applicable.
• Keep abreast of current dental terminology, medical coding practices, and updates in dental office standards to ensure precise documentation.
• Maintain inventory and assist with ordering dental supplies.
• Attend required meetings and maintain reliable attendance.
• Participate in patient recall systems and community prevention programs.
• Complete all required and requested reporting timely and accurately.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Degree from an accredited Dental Hygiene program.
• Current Dental Hygienist license with state-specific certification requirements met and Expanded Practice Permit (including anesthesia and radiograph certification).
• Ability to obtain and maintain Rhode Island licensure.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of dental clinic experience.
• Knowledge of dental hygiene sciences, radiology, periodontology, and HIPAA compliance.
• Proven experience in dental office settings, preferably with exposure to pediatric dentistry and general dentistry environments.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Dentrix.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, infection control procedures, and aseptic techniques relevant to dental practice.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, vital signs assessment, and medical records management.
• Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse patient populations.
• Experience with chairside assisting and understanding of dental assisting procedures is advantageous.
• Knowledge of medical coding related to dental procedures enhances documentation accuracy.
• Valid Driver's license with insurability.
• Current BLS (CPR) certification.
• Current or able to become current on required immunizations prior to start date.
• Experience in public health, community health, or Tribal health settings - Strongly Preferred.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $46,800.00 - $67,600.00 per year
