Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional for our Day Program to provide essential assistance and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role involves fostering a safe, engaging, and respectful environment where participants can develop skills, build independence, and enjoy meaningful activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to person-centered care, demonstrate patience and empathy, and have experience working with the OPWDD population.

Duties

• Provide direct support to participants during daily activities, ensuring safety and engagement at all times.
• Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support.
• Monitor residents’ vital signs and observe for any changes in health status or behavior.
• Prepare nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with dietary restrictions and preferences.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment through routine cleaning tasks and proper sanitation practices.
• Use specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident lifts to assist with mobility needs safely.
• Document observations related to patient care, behavioral changes, or incidents accurately and promptly.
• Follow established protocols for patient monitoring, dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, memory care, and hospice support.
• Collaborate with team members to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each participant’s needs.
• Engage participants in social activities that promote mental stimulation and emotional well-being.

Skills

• Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of protected health info
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
• Excellent observational skills to monitor patient condition and respond appropriately.
• Compassionate communication skills to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Basic cooking skills for meal preparation aligned with dietary guidelines.
• Experience working within care plans developed by healthcare professionals or social workers.
• Ability to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
• Knowledge of safety procedures related to first aid and CPR certification is highly desirable.
