Who You Are:
You are an experienced Swiss CNC programmer who thinks like a department owner. You're comfortable programming and setting up complex multi-axis jobs, building the tooling strategy for new work, and also stepping back to manage the people, schedule, and quality standards for the department. You take pride in catching problems before they become scrap, and you're confident in training and holding operators accountable to the standard you set.
The Role:
The Swiss CNC Programmer/Manager is responsible for both the hands-on programming and process work in PartsBadger's Swiss Department and the ongoing leadership of the people who run it. The department currently runs Citizen L32 machines and has the potential to add other Swiss platforms as it grows. This role manages the department's operators directly, sets the daily production schedule, and partners with the Director of Operations on staffing, equipment, and capacity decisions.
This position is accountable for the technical quality and output of the Swiss Department, and plays a direct role in decisions about staffing, equipment, and growth as the department scales.
Work Environment:
PartsBadger is a relaxed, casual work environment in Cedarburg, WI. Our facility blends office and production space and is designed for idea generation and collaborative work. In this role, you can expect frequent interaction with Design Engineering, Sales, Shipping, and other Operations leaders, in addition to daily hands-on time in the Swiss Department.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
-
Program and optimize jobs on the department's Swiss-type lathes (currently Citizen L32), including multi-axis work using sub-spindle, live tooling, and back-working capability where applicable.
-
Set up and run Swiss CNC machines and bar feeders for new and recurring production, minimizing changeover time between jobs.
-
Select tooling and cutting parameters across a range of materials, including stainless steel, brass, aluminum, and harder-to-machine alloys.
-
Interpret blueprints and GD&T callouts, and flag print or fixturing issues before they affect a production run.
-
Build and manage the daily production schedule for the Swiss Department, including job priority, machine assignment, and staffing.
-
Own first-piece approval and in-process quality checks for the department, ensuring all work meets print and GD&T requirements.
-
Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant work environment, and hold the team to that standard.
Program & Strategic Responsibilities:
-
Hire, onboard, and train new department personnel as the team grows.
-
Drive continuous improvement on cycle time, tool life, and scrap reduction across the Swiss Department.
-
Partner with the Director of Operations on staffing decisions, equipment planning, and capacity for the Swiss Department.
-
Build and maintain standard work instructions and setup documentation that make department successes repeatable across operators.
-
Support planning for additional Swiss capacity, including staffing, layout, and equipment as the department scales.
-
Build strong working relationships with other departments (Design Engineering, Sales, Quality, Shipping, etc.) to reduce friction as the department grows.
Required Qualifications:
-
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience programming Swiss-type CNC lathes, ideally including Citizen platforms.
-
Demonstrated ability to independently program a job from a print, including tooling selection and process planning.
-
Strong working knowledge of GD&T and the ability to read and interpret complex blueprints.
-
Prior experience training, mentoring, or directly supervising other machinists or operators.
-
Solid command of tooling principles across multiple materials and machining processes.
-
High attention to detail and consistent adherence to quality and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Direct experience with Citizen L32 or comparable Swiss platforms.
-
Familiarity with CAM software used for Swiss-type programming.
-
Experience in a high-mix, short-run contract manufacturing environment.
