Manufacturing Maintenance Technician (Mechanic)
Shields, a Novolex company is looking for a Maintenance Technician (Mechanic) for our Shawano Wi, Plant.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
This position is part of a team responsible for repairing and maintaining machinery/equipment throughout the facility and performing leadership to production needs. Shields is a Manufacturing facility, and this department must perform all projects to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety and preventative maintenance schedule.
- Performs mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical troubleshooting and repair on various equipment and building maintenance.
- Conducts machine setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance program.
- Provides emergency and unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
- Performs mechanic skills including but not limited to, mechanical troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
- Will use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
- Safely operate a forklift.
- Ensures shift employees are following safe work practices and procedures consistently and completely. Audits for compliance and addresses safety issues in a timely manner.
- Works safely and is proactively involved in plant safety improvement efforts.
- Troubleshoots and resolves process, equipment, and material issues in conjunction with machine operators and support personnel.
- Studies and understands production schedule and deploys available labor and other resources, as required.
- Leads and/or assists shift employees in problem resolution. Leads or supports efforts to determine root cause and develop corrective actions.
- Suggests changes in procedures, labor utilization, use of equipment, and materials to increase the efficiency of the plant, shift, department, or work cell.
- Communicates regularly and effectively with Production Supervisor and Lead Mechanic about issues occurring on previous, current, or following shift.
- Communicates effectively and appropriately at the necessary frequency with subordinates, peers, and superiors.
- Adheres to all plant Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Other projects and duties, as assigned.
Candidate Requirements:
- Technical Degree a plus, or equivalent years of experience
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a maintenance/production environment
- Electrical training/experience with 480 3 phases/machine controls – preferred
- Experience with VFD Drives and PLCs is a plus
- Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs, and procedures required.
- Previous work experience in mechanical, electrical, and/or experience in blown film industries is strongly preferred.
- Experience operating forklift equipment
- Familiar with all OSHA and GMP standards & requirements
- Computer Skills
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision to complete job tasks.
- Resourceful problem solver with proven ability to bring a quick resolution to challenging situations.
- Team player with the ability to build lasting productive business relationships with hourly employees, management, and peers.
