Position title: Document Controller
Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager
Summary:
The Document Controller is responsible for creating, maintaining, reviewing, and releasing engineering and manufacturing documentation required to support production and product lifecycle management. This position ensures engineering documentation, Bills of Materials (BOMs), item master records, engineering change documentation, and released drawing packages are accurate, complete, and processed in accordance with company procedures, customer requirements, and quality management system standards. The Document Controller serves as a key liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Planning, Quality, Supply Chain, Program Management, and Production to maintain document integrity and configuration control throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain Item Master records in the ERP system.
- Create, update, and maintain Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOMs/NAVBOMs).
- Create and maintain PCB routing records and manufacturing routings.
- Review engineering documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance prior to release.
- Process, release, and distribute engineering drawings, specifications, and related documentation.
- Route, track, and process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) through the approval process.
- Maintain document revision control and configuration control throughout the product lifecycle.
- Update ERP, document management, and related systems to reflect approved engineering changes.
- Ensure released documentation is accurate, current, and available to Manufacturing and other authorized departments.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Planning, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management to resolve documentation discrepancies.
- Maintain engineering records, document archives, and controlled files in accordance with company procedures.
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits by providing controlled documentation and records.
- Assist with Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities by preparing documentation and tracking action items.
- Identify opportunities to improve document control, configuration management, and data accuracy processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect proprietary, export-controlled, and controlled unclassified information (CUI) in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience
- 3+ years of document control, configuration management, engineering administration, or manufacturing documentation experience.
- Experience working within a regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and revision control.
- Knowledge of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and product structures.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple document releases while meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with ERP systems supporting manufacturing (Microsoft NAV, Deltek Costpoint, etc)
- Experience with PLM/PDM or electronic document management systems (EDMS).
- Knowledge of AS9100 quality systems and configuration management practices.
Education
Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Technical Documentation, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
ITAR Requirements
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Other Requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
